' Original application med November .30, 1915, Serial No. 64,273. Patent No. 1,247,943. Divided and this application filed Novemberl, 1917. Serial No. 201,735.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I., WILLIAM M. EvnNsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county ofl Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful l Improvements in Cams, of which the followis a specification.
in flhe invention relates to a cani for giving variable throw or travel to the actuated or driven part or mechanism, and tosuch a-cam having means or capabilities for simple,v
rapid andyet exceedingly nice and exact ad- "justment of the kind described.
, scribed.
Further objects and advantages of the invention willbe set forth in part hereinafter and in part will be obvious herefrom, or may be learned by practice with the invention;
the saine bein realized through the instrumentalities an combinations the appended claims. i
The invention consists in thel novel parts arrangements, constructions, combinations and improvements herein shown and depointed out in scribed applied to and `constituting a part of the inking mechanism of a' printing press, and from said patent certain obj ectsand ad# vantages of the invention may be ascertained in connection with the description of the therein exemplified embodiment or adaptation of the present invention.
In the embodiment illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, the cam is shown mounted upon a shaft 1 (corresponding to the shaft 26 in the parent appiication) the cam having a hub 2 encircl1ng the shaft, the cam being longitudinally and 'angl'.lairly positioned and held upon the shaft iu any suitable or approved manner. The body of the cam as embodied comprises a disk 3, preferably integralwith the hub 2.
In such exemplified ,form the cooperating lever arm 4 and roller 5, (correspondin to arm 23 and roller 24 in the parent appicaf tion) operate on the face of the cam disk 3.
As embodied, a portion of the face of the cam 3 consists of a segmental spring plate 6, attached to the surfaeev of the cam 3 ima suitable manner, as by screws 7 and 8, said plate being mounted preferably to form a continuous cam surface with the solid or non-resilient face of the disk 3.
The spring plate 6 is rendered adjustable as embodied, by an adjusting screw 9 threaded through an aperture in the 4cam disk"3,'
and with its point Abearing on the under or inner side of the spring or resilient plate 6. v'lhe screw 9 may be turned by means of its head 10 and furnishes an exceedingly nice and exact adjustment for the throw or travel of the lever 4 and the parts or mechanism operated thereby. 'llhe cam may also be positioned longitudinally of the shaft as may be found desirable or necessary.
It will be understood that changes may be made from the detailed construction as shown and described, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the principles of the invention or sacrificing its chief advantages.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A cam mechanism including in combination a cam lever, a shaft, a substantially circular cam disk mounted on the shaft and having its side face` cooperating with the cam lever, a resilient arcuate strip constituting a part of the operative surface of the cam, said strip being fastened to the cam disk, and a screw threaded through the cam disk and engaging the inner side of said resilient strip.
2. A cam mechanism including in combi?- l nation a cam havin -a'solidbody portionand a resilient mem er constituting a portion of the o erative face of the cam, a screwl engaging said resilient member to vary its position and a cam lever device engaging both with the solid and resilient portions of said cam.
3. A face cam having a resilient member constituting aV part 'of its face and of the cam track and means for raising and lowering ist said member to vary and regulate the throw of the cam.
m 5 momen 4. A cam having a, bod and a resilient name to this specification, the presence-of member continuous thigenth, he camtraek two subscribing witnesses. passing over the cam y an `over t e resilient membenand means for raising and WILLIAM M EVENSEN" 5 lowering the resilient member to vary and Witnesses:
regulate the throw of the cam.l F. J. Er,
In testimony whereof, I have signed niy G. C. nerr.
