Description
I J. A. HEALY. GARBAGE RECEPTACLE ATTACHMENf. APPLICATION FILED MAY 22, I918.
1,3L69%, Patented Apr. 22, 1919.
JOSEPH A. HEALY, OF SAUGUS, MASSACHUSETTS.
GARBAGE-RECEPTACLE ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. HEALY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saugus, in the county of Essex, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Garbage- Receptacle Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to garbage receptacles, such as cans and barrels, and my purpose is to provide an attachment for such receptacles which will render it easier to roll such receptacles from place to place andwill also prevent the cutting up and disfiguring of lawns, gravel walks and drive-ways, my said improvement being illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation, or side view, of a garbage can having my present improvement attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a central, vertical, sectional, view of the same and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the said attachment, removed from the can.
In these drawings the letter a indicates an ordinary garbage can made of galvanized sheet iron, or the like, such cans being constructed usually with the bottom I) set in, as seen in Fig. 2 of said drawings. f
My new attachment consists of an annulus c which is of suitable size to fit snu ly in the lower end of the can (see Fig. 2 the said annulus having secured thereto, or formed integral therewith, an extension cl Specification of Letters Patent.

which is inclined downwardly and inwardly so as to form, in effect, a flattened truncated cone, which forms an obtuse angle with the vertical wall of the can.
When it is desired to roll the can from place to place it may be tilted, as seen in Fig. 1, when the conical wall (1 of the attachment lies flat upon the ground and thus provides a broad bearing to prevent the otherwise sharp edge of the can from cutting into a lawn or gravel walk, as the can is rolled along.
While I have illustrated and described my attachment as being inserted) in the lower end portion of the can, it ,will be ob vious that it could as readily be slipped onto the lower end portion of said can, and it will also be obvious that said attachment could be applied equally well, and with equal advantage, to ordinary barrels.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent The combination with a substantially cylindrical receptacle of the class described, of a receptacle bottom, a projecting rim surrounding said bottom, a bottom support comprising a cylindrical part slidingly fitted to said projecting rim and of substantially equal diameter therewith, and a trunco-conical part integral with said cylindrical part of the bottom support beyond said projecting rim.
JOSEPH A. HEALY.
