-To allwhom t may concern:
Be 1t known that l, WiLLIAM PURNHAGEN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Shoe Elements, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hollow metal detachable heels for shoes,
particularly ladies shoes. Due tothe great height of heels worn on ladies shoes, and due to their conformation, they wear or run over in a very short space of time. rll`his -means that the heel must either be re-placed or the shoe discarded. To re-place the heel is an expensive operation. A further object of my invention is to produce a heel that is light in weight, durable, one that permits of resilience when used in walking, one that is quickly detachable by any person, and one which need not be taken to a Shoemaker to be detached.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmental longitudinal ele- 25 Vation of a portion of a shoe with my heel attached.
Fig. 2 is a fragmental sectional elevation taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 14.
Fig. 3 is a plan of the plate which is used on the inside of the shoe for the purpose of attaching my heel. y
.And Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the nail block shown in Fig. 2.
Referring further to the drawings 3F13l Numeral 5 designates a shoe having a sole 6, an inner-sole 7 and a heel ller 8. 9 designates a hollow casting, particularly of aluminium of the conformation of a heel. 10 designates a leather or composition element or lift. 11 designates a nail block secured in the lower cavity of the heel 9. The element or lift 10 is secured to the nail block 11 by means of the nails 12. Secured by thrgeaded engagement, as shown in Fig. 1
and Fig. 2, is positioned the sleeve 13. 14: designates a metal plate on the inside of the ,heel ,of the shoe in which is formed a counter-sunk hole 15. 16 designates a screw passing through the counter-sunk hole 15 in the plate 14:, the inner-sole 7 the filler 8, the sleeve 13 and the element or lift 10. The screw 16 is in threaded engagement with the sleeve 13. It will be seen therefore that the screw 16 holds all the elements of the heel in the positions shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. 17 designates a screw head, which when in the position shown'in Fig. 1, is flush with the inner surface of the plate 14. 18 designates a felt or cloth covering over the plate 14 on the inside of the shoe. lf the lift or element 10 becomes worn, it can be re-placed very lli quickly with the smallnails 12. lf the heel becomes further worn, it can be detached by the use of a screw-driver by which means the screw 16 can be unscrewed thereby detaching the heel from the shoe., llt is a simple operation and 'can' be erformed by anyone who can use a smallp screw-driver.
