APPLICATION FILED NOV-9,1918.

SJ nuewtoz UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SARA E. D. DEANE, 0F WRENTHAM, MASSACHUSETTS.
GOMBINATION-UN'DERGARMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARA E. D. DEANE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Wrentham, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to combination under-garments for womens wear, and has for its object to provide such a garment that is simple in construction, easily, quickly and cheaply made and which also possesses other advantages hereinafter more fully pointed out.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
The figure is a face view of the garment.
My improved garment comprises a com bined corset cover or chemise and a pair of drawers, the latter being so constructed as to fall in folds about the person and take the place of a petticoat or underskirt.
The garment is formed primarily of two similar pieces of material cut to form a short, substantially straight body portion 12 widely flaring at its lower edge to form the leg portions 13, one of these pieces providing the front and the other the back of the garment. Both of these pieces are preferably continuous from edge to edge without provision being made for an entering opening in the body portion. These two pieces are then sewed together throughout the length of their side edges 10 and at their bottom edges 11 centrally for but a short distance, preferably by a seam which forms the arc of a circle upwardly curved leavingmwide openings on either side to receive the legs of the wearer.
The upper end of the garment is open for a width sufficient to receive the body of the wearer and the garment is put on like a pair of trousers by stepping into the top opening and then through each of the two lower openings on either side of the central seam, these lower openings being made as shown,

of a width sufficient to allow either of the leg portions to be drawn aside for toilet purposes.
The garment may be provided with shoulder straps 14 as shown but when used for evening or full-dress wear these straps may be omitted. The upper edge may further be provided with a draw string 15 to gather it and close the top opening about the body in the well-known manner.
The front and rear of the garment being made similar in shape it is evident that the garment is reversible, back for front, and hence its durability and wear will be materially increased.
By my improved construction of combination under-garment, it is seen that it is only necessary to cut two pieces from the same pattern, then sew together their side edges and a small portion of the lower edge, to complete a simple and practical garment that may serve the triple purpose, first that of a chemise; second, that of a pair of drawers; and third, that of a petticoat or underskirt, all without the necessity of sewing on a button or working a single button-hole.
The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I re serve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claim.
I claim:
A combination under-garment formed of two similar front and back pieces, said pieces being continuous and without a central entering opening and sewed together at their side edges and also for a short distance centrally at their bottom edges, the unsewn top portion being of a width sufficient to receive the body of the wearer and each of the unsewn bottom portions being suflicient in extent to be drawn aside for toilet purposes.
In testimony whereof I aiiix mysignature in presence of a witness.
SARA E. D. DE-ANE.
Witness HOWARD E. BARLOW.
