GHIROPODISTS CABINET AND SCREEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 22, 1919.
Application filed June 28, 1916. Serial No. 106,379.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL E. FULLER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chiropodists Cabinets and Screens, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to chiropodists cabinet and screen for a foot rest, and my invention aims to provide a simple, durable and inexpensive adjustable screen that may be adjusted between a patient and an operator to prevent the patient from observing any instrumentation or other operation upon the foot, thus avoiding nervousness and very often fainting spells on the part of the patient. The screen besides serving this purpose will shield the skirt of a woman patient and prevent limb exposure and embarrassment.
My invention further aims to provide a novel chiropodists cabinet including drawers or trays, an operating table or foot rest, and a screen which will permit of a foot being easily placed upon the foot rest or table.
The mechanical construction by which the above and other objects are attained will be hereinafter described and then'claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing wherein-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chiropodists chair having a foot rest and provided with a screen in accordance with my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a chiropodists cabinet. i In the drawing, 1 denotes a conventional. form of chiropodists chair having a foot rest 2, and attached to the frame 3 of the foot rest at the ends thereof and adjacent the rear edge, are uprights 4. These uprights have the upper ends thereof connected by a longitudinally disposed rod 5, and slidable upon said rod is a curtain 6 made of a fabric of sufi'icient weight to hang by gravity in an adjusted position. The curtain 6 has 0 the upper edge thereof provided with a case Copies of this patent may be obtaiped for five cents each, by addressing the 6 to receive the rod and the lower edge has a short slit 12 through which a patient may place a foot on the rest. In some instances two curtains may be used.
In Fig. 2 there is shown a cabinet 7 having drawers or trays 8, a foot rest or operating table 9, uprights 10, and a rod 11 supporting a slitted curtain 6. The cabinet is adapted to be placed in front of a chair upon which a patient may sit and comfortably and conveniently place a foot upon the rest or table 9, whereby the chiropodist may perform operations ing the same.
The lower drawer 8 of the cabinet contains a metallic waste receptacle 13 having an out wardly opening lid 14, which when open serves as av tray to collect cotton and other matter that may be quickly deposited in the receptacle 13 by closing the lid 14. With the drawer closed the waste matter is invisi, ble and the cabinet can be maintained in a tidy and neat condition.
It is thought that the utility of the screen will be apparent without further description, and while in the drawings there are illustrated the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
'What I claim is The combination of a chiropodists' foot rest, uprights having the lower ends thereof connected to the .ends of said foot rest contiguous to the rear edge of said rest, a rod connecting said uprights, and a curtain adjustable on said rod having a slit interme .diate the side edges thereof and at the lower edge thereof and through which a foot may be inserted, said slit being inverted V shape and approximately half the depth of said curtain.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
KARL E. FULLER.
