Be it known that I, SIMEON DEsMoND PURDY, a citizen of the United States of An'ierica, residing at Fairville, St. John county, New Brunswick, Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Brushes, of whichv the following is a specification.

My invention relates to brushes and par ticularly to shaving brushes, the object of my invention being to provide a shaving brush in which are combined the economies and advantages of a one-piece handle, a bunch of brush bristles having its butt set in rubber, an exterior clamping ring surrounding the brush butt, a central core piece, preferably vulcanized into the butt, and a securing nail or screw piercing this core piece and entering the handle to se- Other Y cure the brush bunch to the handle. features of value will also appear from the following description or drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a brush in which my invention is illustratively embodied;

Referring to the drawings, the brush A comprises a bunch of bristles, the butt ends of which are held by a plain clamping ring 10 and embedded in vulcanized rubber.k

In V'the center of the brush butt is a core piece 11 of' wood, fiber, rubber, metal, or the like. This core 11 is preferably vulcanized in the butt, although it is possible to mold a hole in the butt on the vulcanization of the latter, and thereafter insert the core 11. The shape of the core may be cylindrical (Fig. 5) but is preferably tapered in order to better grip the brush bristles.

The handle B, which is preferably turned from wood, has a plain, unthreaded socket 12 bored in one end to receive the butt of the brush, and is of such depth that the outer margin of the clamping ring l0 lies sulficiently far below the lip of the socket to per- Speciicaton of Letters Iiatent.

The constructions shown and described are merely illustrative of what I claim as my invention andare not to be taken as limitative thereof.

I elaimzm A brush comprising a one-piece handle recessed at one end to form a plain butt-re,- ceiving socket, a bunch of bristles having a butt-end set in rubber and fitting within said socket, said buttend being substantially flat and'bearing against the bottom of the socket, a central'core-piece within saidvbutt, a ring surrounding said butt and between which and said core-piece the butt ends of the bristles are confined, such ring being of less width than the depth, of the socket in the handle to permit the bristles to eX- pand into contact with the edge of the socket, `together with means piercing said core-piece and engaging the handle to secure the bristle bunch thereto.
