IMPROVEMENT IN BOOTS AND SHOES.V
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,989, dated July 30, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. SEAVEE, of Ashland, in the countyy of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots and Shoes, of which the following` is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part ot' this speciiication, in Which- Figure 1 represents a sectionalelevation of `a shoe.

The plate acovers and protects the end ofthe outer ysole or top, and prevents it being Worn away, and this protected, preserved, and projecting-forward 'end of the outer sole or tap takes all the wear, and prevents Wear or injury to the upperleather at the toe-end e; Whereas, if the end of the outer Sole is unprotected, it is frequently worn oft so as to expose and to bring the wear upon the Aupperleather, greatly injuring the boot or shoe.
Thus it will be seen that, by protecting and preserving the tbrWard-projecting end of the outer sole or tap, not only this is saved, but also the upper-leather and the whole toe-end of the boot or shoe.
I am aware that hard-metal plates have been applied to the underside of the taps or outer soles of boots and shoes to prevent rapid Wear at that point, but such bottom plates do not wholly prevent Wear at the end of the sole or tap and untimely exposure and wear of the upper part of the shoe.
I make no claim for the bottom plates or the plates on the under side of the toe-end of the tap or outer pole.
- I claim as my lnvention- The sole-plate c, extended and turned downward to form thetip-protecting plate a, substantially as described.
