Description

w.1. MULVANEY.
AUTOMATIC STOVE LIGHTER. 'APPLICATION man ocT. 2o. lsf-1.

g1/wanton WILLIAM d'. MULVANEY, 0F LISLE, ILLINOIS.
AUTOMATIC STOVE-LIGHTER.
To all whom t may/concern.' i
Be it known that I, WIIJJAM J. M VANEY, a citizen of the VUnited States, residing at- Lisle,in the county of Dupage and v State of Illinois, j have inventedl new and useful Improvements in Automatic Stove- Lighters, of which the following is a specification.- y
` This'invention relates to new and useful improvements in automatic lighting devices, and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for relighting a stove if the same should become extinguished through accident. 4 y
Another object of the invention is to provide an electric circuit combined with athermostat which will automatically complete the circuit and relight the wick, when the same' is extinguished. j Y
Another object of the invention is to pro- Vide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eiiicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon thel market at a minimum cost. l
.The invention also consists in certain other V 'features of construction and in the combi-na- Ation and arrangement of the several parts, to
' rangement of rheostat and-contacts the stove and supported by the rods 5 which be hereinafterfully described, lillustrated in the accompanying drawings and,I specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in` detail, reference will be* had tof the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like 1 or corresponding parts throughout the' sever l'views, and in which:-
-igure 1 is a front vview of-a l stove equipped with my improvement. `l
Fig. 2 is a detail viewy showi the ar-4 rangement of parts adjacent the wick.
Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the ar-l Fig. 4 is a plan view. In these gures 1- indicatesfthe stove, 2 the oil tank tlereof and 3 the burner. 4 representsl a perforated 'plate forming; a top for have their lower endsv connected with the tank. 6 indicates an insulating member of plu v Y v In testimony whereof I-aifx my signature.

said cap being connected to the battery 7.
The thermostat may be composed of the well Aknown form of-wafers suitably-connected together so that when subjected to heat said wafers will expand and bulge outwardly and thus lift the cap from off the plate 4. Saidthermostat is supported on the insulated strip 9 so as to be out of electrical contact with the plate. When the thermostat closes the circuit through'the primary coil of box'7 a current is induced in the secondary coil,
which is connected with the spark plug so that a'spark is produced at said plug. It will thus be lseen that when the stove is lighted the heat thereof will cause the thermostat to ex and so as to raise the cap out thus permitting the cap to come in contact with the plate so as to complete the circuit 4of contact wlth the plate and thus break the and cause a spark at'the plug, thereby lightingthe wick again.
iIt is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features .y of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire itto be understood that I may make slight changes 1n the construction and I in the combination and arrangementof the several parta-.provided that such changes scope of the appended claim. What I claim is An automatic vlighter for stoves compris-l ing a perforated plate connected with the top-ofthe stove,` a thermostat on the plate and'insulated therefrom, a4 cap connected with the thermostat" and having its edges contacting with the plate in the contracted position of ytheth'ermostat, a spark plug adjacent the wick and electric means/controlled by the thermostat for causing; a spark at the
