ELEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTIONAL PURPOSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1, 1919.
Application filed June 19, 1917. Serial No. 175,629.
* and useful Improved Elements for Constructional Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improved elements for constructional purposes.
The elements are rigid and of regular geometric lozenge shape, composed of steel or bamboo tubes, bars, rods or the like, connected by heads into or to which the tubes or the like are screwed, pinned or fastened according to the fixed or movable nature of the construction.
The steel tubes, bars or the like are preferably adopted for important construction, made to last a long time and requirlng a reat resistance, while the bamboo tubes are used for light and rapidly constructed installations.
The structures formed of the elements can be mounted and dismounted with great celerity, and by the interchangeableness of their elements, can be adapted to various structures according to the circumstances, for instance the elements having served for the construction of a shed, can subsequently be employed forbuilding a foot-bridge, an observation or wireless telegraphy post, etc.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the element and various structures formed from same.
Figure 1 shows the element made of steel tubes mounted in the forks.
Fig. 2 shows the same element in bamboo tubes.
Fig. 3 shows a connector for six elements.
Fig. 4 is a detail of a stool resting direct on the ground or on wooden supports.
Figs. 5, 6 and 7 respectively illustrate various forms of heads.
The element A shown in Fig. 1 is of lozenge shape, adopted by reason of the great resistance which it offers; it is composed of steel tubes at with screw-threaded ends, assembled by forked unions 6.
The assembling of the various elements A is effected by means of connecting members 0, which may have a variable number of connections, three in the example shown; the connection is effected by eyes d connected at e on the member 0.
The shape of the eyes 6 to the conditions of the combination; they varies according may be single as shown in Fig. 5, or forked (Fig. 6), or again excentered (Fig. 7.)
The support of the elements on the ground is efiected by means of shoes f fixed direct by pins g or on wooden blocks h resting on the ground; the shoes are provided with the connecting member 0.
The elements A are made of steel tubes, for important structures which are to support great resistances while for temporary structures bamboo tubes a may be used for the elements and assembled by metal unions I; mounted in metal forks ,(Fig. 2).
Fig. 3 shows a means of connecting six elements A comprising connections 0 connected by plates 7; and six single heads or eyes d towhich the unions b are fixed.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. An element for constructional purposes comprising a metal cross socket member, rods fixed in two opposite sockets of said cross socket to form a longitudinal straight bar, rods of shorter length than said first mentionedrods fixed in the other two opposite members of said cross socket member so as to form a cross bar to said longitudinal bar, three way socket members fixed at the respective ends of said longitudinal bar and cross bar, rods connecting said three way socket members so as to form a frame of substantially lozenge shape and connecting members on said three way socket members to connect one element to another, or to the ground.
2. An element for constructional purposes comprising a metal cross socket member, bamboo rods fixed in two opposite sockets of said cross socket to form a longitudinal straight bar, bamboo rods of shorter length than said first mentioned rods fixed in the other two opposite members of said cross socket member so as to form a cross bar to said longitudinal bar, three way socket members fixed at the respective ends of said lon gitudinal bar and cross bar, bamboo rods connecting said three way socket members so as to form a frame of substantially lozenge shape and connecting members on said three way socket members to connect one element to another or to the ground.
3. An element for construction purposes comprising a cross socket member, longitudinal rods having their inner ends held within the longitudinal ends of the cross socket member, transverse rods held within the transverse ends of the cross socket member and being substantially shorter than the longitudinal rods and of substantially the same length with each other, three way socket members secured to the outer ends of the transverse rods, outer rods having their adjacent ends held within the opposite ends of the three Way socket members, said outer rods being arranged in pairs which converge toward the outer ends of the longitudinal rods, and three Way socket members secured to the outer ends of the longitudinal rods and receiving the outer ends of the outer rods. 7 I
4. An element for construction purposes comprising, a central cross socket member, longitudinal rods of substantiallythe same length having their inner ends held within the longitudinal ends of the cross socket member, transverse rods having substantially the Qqpien 01 this patent may be obtained for same length and having their inner ends held sides of the longitudinal rods and converging toward the outer ends thereof, elements for'securing the inner ends of the outer rods with the transverse rods, elements for securing the outer ends of the outer rods with the outer ends of the longitudinal rods, and attaching devices for connection with said elements. 7 e 7.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in p the presence of two witnesses.
