PATENT OFFIoE.
THOMAS MGDONOUGH, OF MONT CLAIR, NEW JERSEY.
I IMPROVEMENT m 'SASH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,845, dated July 23, 1872.
I, THOMAS McDoNonsn, of the town of Mont Clair, State of New Jersey, have invented a Stop to Hold Window-Sash, of which the following is a specification:
Myinv ention consists of a wheel and roller cast or otherwise constructed in a single piece, the roller of which is dropped into a wedgeshaped recess cut in the frame of the window, the wheel serving as a handle; and its purpose is to hold the sash at any desired height when raised, and to release it when it is to be lowcred. It is held in place when raised by the pressure of the roller between the sash and frame, and is released by turning the wheel.
In the accompanying drawing, Fignre2 represents the wheel D and roller E in elevation.
. Fig. 1 represents a portion of the sash B and the frame A, with the form of the wedgeqshaped recess 0 out in the frame, and a section of the roller E lying in the recess.
Like letters in the drawing indicate like parts.
The wheel D would lie in a suitable recess in the casing above the plane of the sash and frame, and so made that the wheel does not touch in any part of it. I prefer to make the wheel and rollerof metal, cast or otherwise constructed in one piece, of the size shown in the drawing, and with a smooth rolling surface.
I claim- The combination of the roller E and the wheel D, cast or otherwise constructed in a single piece, with the recess 0 in the frame, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
