ELASTIC HOSE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 4, 1919.
Application filed December 22, 1916. Serial No. 138,419.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY E. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex'and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Elastic Hose, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to elastic hose and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide hose such as is worn by Children, women and men with interwoven elastic sections at their. upper portions whereby the hose when applied to the leg will clasp the same and thusare held in proper position without the use of garters or other supporting devices. The hose are provided below the said elastic sections with openings which afi'ord ventilation and also permit the thread woven portion of tlie pose to expand and contract when app 1e In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the hose showing the improved features.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with parts in section. V
Fig. 3 isa side elevation of a modified form of the hose.
The body 1 of the hose is of the usual thread material knitted in the ordinary manner. The
body 1 is provided with suitable openings 2 which afiord ventilation and which permit the said knitted portion of the hose to expanel or contract when the hose is applied to the leg of a wearer without causlng the same to wrinkle. The section 8 which is at the upper edge of the body 1 and above the upper edges of the openings 2 includes some strands of thread carried u a from the body and also includes strands o elastic'material as for instance rubber woven with the strands of thread, whereby the said section 3 is rendered elasti and may contract and expand.
It is apparent that when the hose is applied to the leg of a wearer the section 3 will bind around the leg and hold the hose in proper position thereon. Therefore it is not necessary to wear garters or similar supporting devices. In view of the fact that the hose are provided with the openings 2 they are especially desirable for use by those engaged in swimming or athletic sports in view of the fact that the hose are ventilated and consequently cool and in View of the further fact that the wearer is not hampered by the presence of garters or other supporting devices.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A hose comprising a body of relatively inelastic material, elastic strands woven into the inelastic material at the edge portion of the body whereby the said edge portion will be normally constricted but capable of ex-.
