Be it known that I, GEORGE R. STINE, av citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Camp Tables and Seats, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a folding camp table and seats.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a combination folding table and seats, particularly adapted for camping purposes and like uses, which is simple and rigid` in construction, cheap to manufacture and which is so assembled that it may be4 quickly folded into a compact bundle for shipment or storage and quickly extended when required. Another object of the in-A vention is to provide means for rigidly bracing the table and seats when extended or unfolded. Further objects will hereinafter appear.

The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the table and seats.

Fig. 4 shows the table and seats completely folded.

Referring to the drawings in detail, A indicates in general a table top consisting of two sections 2 and 3. These sections are hingedlyeonnected, as at 4, and they are also hingedly secured to side rails 5 by means of hinges 6. Each side rail is supported by a pair of legs 7, one being positioned at each end of each side rail. These legs are in turn supported by sill plates 8 and legs-9. The sill plates 8 form supports for seats 10. The seats have a length equal to the table top sections 2and 3 and there section on line 5'-5 are two pair of sill plates for each seat, said sill plates being arranged at each end of the seat so as to support the legs 7 of the table top and also to form means for attaching the legs 9. The legs 9 are also four in. number and are disposed one at each end of each seat. They are pivotally attached, as atv 11, between each sill plate which in reality consists of two pieces, as shown at 8 and 8a (see Figs. 1 and 6).

The legs supporting the table are pivotally attached to the sill plates, as shown at 12, and as the table top sections are hinged, as at 6, it can readily be. seen that the seats, table top sections and the legs supporting the seats may all be folded, as shownin Figs. 3 and 4. The legs 9 are in reality the main supporting members both for the seats and-.the table proper. The legs 7 supporting the sill plates 8 and the tabletop sections form a super-structure that supports the table at a suitable elevation with relation to the 4seat sections.

The table and seats, when extended, are rigidly braced together by means of a pair of bracing bars 13 (see Figs. .1, 2 and 7 There is one brace bar disposed at each end of the table and seats. These bars not only serve as a means for bracing and locking the seats and table againstvmovement with relation to each other but they also serve as a support for a pair of bars 14 which are pivotally attached, one to each bar, as shown at 15. The free end of each bar is provided with a latch member 16 and these latches are adapted to engage pinsk or thumb screws 17 secured at the opposite ends of each table top section 2 and 3.

The construction of the brace bar is best shown in Fig. 7. The ends of the bars are notched, as at 18, to embrace the4 table legs 7 and the table legs are in turn rabbeted or notched, as at 19, (see Fig. 5) to receive the notched portions of the bars 13. The manner of interlocking the bracing bars with relation to the table legs serves the purpose of locking the tablelegs against spreading and secures the same against vertical movement.

The pivotally mounted bars 14, when swung into vertical position as shown in Fig. 2, engage the thumb Screws 17 and they are locked in said vertical position by tlghtening up on said screws. Thesebars are provided for-therpurpose of supporting the center portion of the table sections 2 and 3 and thereby .prevent the same from sagging or becoming v spreading or collapsing of the table or seats.

The upright bars 14:, Vcarried 'by lthe bracing bars 13, are also locked by means of .the latches and thumb screws 17 and the main supporting legs 9 are also locked against movement about their pivots 11 vinpeither direction by forming a'squa're shoulder at the top, as shown at 2l, and by forming a notch 22 in `each leg 'which isl ladapted 'to v,receive a pivotally mounted latch 23 carried by lthe sill plates 8. As 'every part forming the seats land table structure is in this manner rigidl'ylocked when extended or .folded and the said Vlocking operation is `accomplished vby the use of pivotally mounted latches, it

can readily be seen vthat this may be quickly released when it is ldesired to fold the table and seats.

The bracingpbars 13 are 'considered the most important members inthe structure involved as they not only serve as a support for .thed center portion of the tablejsections 2 and 3 but they also serve as positive locking members to prevent vertical `movement of the table legs and spreading movement of said legs, together with the seat sections andthe legs supporting same. The 'side rails 5 also form 'a part of the table top when the structure is unfolded, thereby materially adding to the sur-face area'of same. They are, however, comparatively narrow, in fact, they are no wider than the sill plates vand the seats supported thereon. The ysill plates and seats can therefore be folded directly 'under .thesill plates between the table legs 7, "as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and the legs may in turn be folded betweenthe sill yplates 8 vand 8a, thus permitting the formation of an exceedingly compact 'unit whichcan be Areadily handledon'camping'trips 'Whether it is carried ron 'the runningboard -of an automobile, in a Wagon,'or by mule pack.

A combination table and seats comprising a pair of seat members, a pair of foldable table sections elevated with relation lto the seats, ay pair of legs pivotally attached to each seat and supporting the same, means for locking the said legs against pivotal movement, a second pair yof legs pivotally attached at o ne end ofthe seats and at the opposite ends of the table sections, a pair of bars extending under the table between the seats, one at each end of thek table and seats, and means on said bars for locking'the table supporting the legs against pivotal Vmovement,said meanscom'prising notches formed in the cross bars,` which are sufficiently deep to permit the table legs to be received thereby.

3. A combination table and lseats comprising a pair of seat members, a pair-'of foldable table sections elevatedwith relation to the seats, hin ges connecting said rtable sections, a pair of legs pivotally attached to each seat and foldable with' relation thereto :adapted to'support the seats when extended, means for locking said legs against pivotal movement with relation to the seats, a second pair of legs pivotally attached to each seat adapted to support the table sections, said legs being'also pivotally attached to the table sections, a pair of'bars extending crosswisebetween the seats, one under each end of the table and a pairrof notches formed in 'each bar'adapted to receive the legs supporting` the table sections to lock the same against pivotal movement.

A combination table and seats -comprising a fpair of seat members, a'pair of foldable table sections elevated with relation to the seats, hinges connecting said table sections, 'a 'pair of "legs pivotally attached to `each `seat and foldable with relation' thereto adapted to support the seats vwhen extended, a second pair of legs pivotally attached to leach seat adapted to support the tab-le sections, ksaid `legs being also pivotallyl'attached to the y table sections, a pair of bars extending crosswrise between the jseats, one under each Iend of the table, vmeans for securing said'cross bars to the seats, a pair-ofnot'ches formed on each bar yadapted to embrace the legs'supporting the table sections to lock the same against pivotal movement and a second pair of legs attached to each table section adapted to be supported at their opposite ends by the cross bars.

5. A combination table and seats, comprising a pair of seat members, legs supporting said seat members, a foldable table section elevated with relation to the seats and positioned between the same, legs pivotally attached to the seat sections supporting the table sections, said seat legs, seats and table sections adapted to be folded to form a compact unit, means for locking said seats and table sections against folding movement when extended, said means comprising a pair of bracing bars positioned one at each end of the table and seat sections, said bracing bars being notched at each end to embrace the table legs, means on the seats for locking the bracing bars against lateral movement With relation to the table legs, a bar pivotally attached to each bracing bar, a latch on the free end of each of said bars, and a locking member on each table section adapted to receive the latches to permit said bars to support the center portions of the table sections.

A combination table and seats, comprising a pair of table sections hingedly connected, a pair of side rails to which the table sections are also hingedly connected, legs supporting the side rails, a seat section disposed on each side of the table pivotally attached to the table legs, pivotally mounted legs on each seat section supporting the seats and table, means for locking said legs against movement when extended, means for locking the ftable legs and seats against spreading movement with relation to the table top, said means comprising a pair of bracing bars disposed one at each end of the table and seats, each bar being notched to embrace the table legs and lock same against spreading movement, and means on each seat section for locking the bracing bars from disengagement with the table legs.

means on each bracing bar for supporting the center portion of the table sections.

A combination table and seats, comprising a pair of table sections hingedly connected, a pair of side rails to Which the table sections are also hingedly connected, legs supporting the side rails, a seat section disposed on each side of the table pivotally attached to the table legs, pivotally mounted legs on each seat section supporting the seats and table, means for locking said legs against movement when extended, means for locking the table legs and seats against spreading movement with relation to the table top, said means comprising a pair of bracing bars disposed one at each end of the table and seats, each bar being notched to embrace the table legs and lock lsame against spreading movement, means on each seat section for locking the bracing bars from disengagement With the table legs, and means on each bracing bar for supporting the center portion of the table sections, said means comprising a bar pivotally attached to each bracing bar, 'said bars adapted to assume a vertical position and When so positioned to support the center portion of each table top section.
