BICKFOD N. HEMENWAY, OF ROCKLAND, MAINE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO WARREN O. PERRIGO, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCHC OLDESKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,559, dated July 16, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in School-Desks and like articles of furniture, invented by BIGKFORD N. HEMEN- WAY, of Rockland, Knox count-y, State of Maine.
The purpose of this invention is to supply a Want long felt in schools, oiiices, and countingrooms, as Well as by individuals who use the desk or table for writing purposes. It relates to the lowering or raising of any desk or table, so as to adjust it to any desired height, by means of the followingdescribed machinery, to wit:
Figure l is the front elevation of the desk `or.table to which the invention is to be applied. Fig. 2 is the end elevation. Figs. 3 and 4 are the two screw-bolts with nuts.
A, in Figs. 1 and 2, is the top of the desk or table. B, in the same gures, is back. O is the partition. D is the shelf. E E are the iron supporters. F F are the wooden ends of the desk. G and H, in Figs. 3 and 4, are the bolts that connect the parts passing through and uniting the iron supporters E E and Wood ends F F, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2. I and J are the grooves or slots in iron part of end, in
which the Wood end is moved up and down and held at any point by the bolts above nientioned, connecting iron and Wood ends. .The groove J has expansions on each side to receive the dovetailed head of bolt G. In Fig.
3 bolt Gr has a dovetailed head for the purpose of tightening and holding firmly thewood end at any point desired. In Fig. 4, the bolt H -has a dat or oval head, used for tightening and making more rm the connection of iron and Wooden parts of the end.
The ends and supporters or standards may be made of Wood, iron, or other suitable maslots I J, and screw-bolts CTa H, substantially as described.
