MANIFOLDING SALES BOOK.
APPLICATION FILED APILZO, 1912.
Patented Fei). 18,1919.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD KIHBY BOTTLE, OF ELMLRA, NEW YORK, LSSIGNOB TO AMERICAN SALES BOOK COMPANY, LIMITED, 0 TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, A CORPORATION OF ONTARIO.
MANIFOLDING SALES-BOOK.-
. vices, and with regard to its more specific 7 features, to manifolding salcsbooks.
An objectof this invention is to provide,
a triplicating book in which any number of slips and especially the original may be remined in the book without interfering with the subsequent use of the book.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified inthe construction hereinafter set forth, and thp scope of the application of which will be indicated in the following claims,
In the accompanying drawings fornnng part of this specificat on and wherein similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views,--
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a salesbook embodying this invention; and
Fig. 2 is a sine view showing the arrangement of sheets.
The numeral 1 designates a,support, having at, one end a series of single ply leaves bound together, as by staples 2, to form a pad 3, and attached to the support along their bound edges. This attachment may be bv any convenient means. but an economical aiid eiiicieu't mode of construction is to bind the support on the back ot the pad by the staples *2. The leaves of the (pad 3 are adapted to form the original an duplicate copies of the sale or other memorandum, and in order to enable the record to be made upon the duplicate, a double faced transfer sheet 4 is operatively associated with the pad in position to be interposed between successive pairs of the sheets of the pad.
. A series of single ply leaves adapted to form the triplicate copies of the sale or other memorandum are so positioned as to permit Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1919.
Application filed April 20, 1917. Serial No. 163,372.
r of their being interposed in operative'relation to'the sheets of the first pad 3 and the transfer sheet. In the embodiment illus-' trated the triplicate leaves, which are preferably translucent, are bound to ether to form a'pad 4 and are attached to t is end of the support 1 by staples 5. By this construction the free ends of the leaves of the pads 3- and 4' are toward each other, so that the leaves of the. one pad are easily into osed between the leaves of the other, an the leaves of the pad 4 may be disposed between the ad 3 and the support 1 when the record has een made thereon.
In order to attach the transfer sheet in such a way as to permit its bein inserted between the leaves of the pad 3 w ile at the sametime permitting the leaves of the pad 4 to be associated in proper 'relationship'to the leaves of the pad 3 and to be placed be bind the pad 3 when desired, as shown, an
auxiliary support 5 is provided, comprising a sheet interposed between and bound integral with the support 1 and the ad 3, and the transfer sheet 4" may be attac ed to the outer end of the auxiliary support 5'. The
1 transfer sheetmay conveniently be notched as at 6 to permit the ready removal of the sheets from beneath it. The transfer sheet is double faced and is adapted to lie over the free ends of the leaves to the back of which it is connected, as illustrated. An auxiliary carbon 7 may also be attached to the auxiliary support 5 and folded between the auxiliary support and the pad 3. This auxiliary carbon sheet is merely an additional carbon. sheet similar to the carbon 4' and attache to the auxiliary support 5 at the same point, bein designed ,to replace the carbon sheet t wen the latter is worn out or destroyed. A suitable cover member, as of Manila board,
may be folded to form a front 8 and a back 9, and the support 1 with its attached pads may be attached to this cover, as bythe staples 5.
The manipulation of this book is as follows: The cover and the leaves of the pad 4: being thrown back, the pad 3 will be exposed through the notched portion 6 of the transfer sheet. The upper sheet of the pad 3 may now be grasped and drawn out from under the carbon. Thereupon the last sheet of the pad 4 may be superposed upon the carbon and the upper sheet of the pad 3 placed thereupon. Any-record which is now made upon the upper sheet will be transferred by the carbon to the second sheet directly, and transferred to the under side of the inter posed sheet fromthe pad 4: with its record reversed.
Should it be desired to make subsequent records before removing any of the slips, as when a salesman is taking orders at residences-to be subsequently taken to the establishment to be filled, the sheet from the pad 4 on which the record has been made may be placed between the support 5 and the support 1 and the original and duplicate records from the ad 3 may be folded down over the base of 'the pad, as shown at 10. The book is then in position to make a new record, using the third and fourth sheets of the pad 3 and the next to the last sheet from, the pad 4, the manipulation be- I ing substantially the same as before. At
any time desired, as when the salesman returns to the establishment, one or all of the records may be removed from the book and utilized for any purpose desired, as for example, one copy may be sent to the customer with the goods, one copy sent to the cashier in order that the proper charge may be made, and the triplicate or tissue copy may remain in the book as a check for the salesman.
Thus by the above described construction are accomplished, among others, the objects hereinbefore referred to.
As many changes could be made in the above" construction and many apparentlywidely' different embodiments of this 1nvention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or be interpreted illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the language used in the following claims is intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetweeln' Having described my invcntion,"what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters leaves of the other pad, and a double faced transfer sheet attached at the back of one of said pads, adapted to lie over the free ends of the leaves thereof and between any -two adjacentaleaves thereof.
2. A manifolding device comprising, in combination, a support, two overlapping pads of single ply leaves, each pad so connected to said support as to permit any of its leaves to be placed above'or be neath the other pad or between any two adjacent leaves of the other pad, and a double being faced transfer sheet attached. at the back of one of said pads adapted to lie over the free ends of the leaves thereof and between any two adjacent leaves thereof, all the leaves of one of said pads being translucent. In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in theprese'nce of two witnesses.
