WIRE CUTTER.
APPLICATIDN FILED SEPT. I0, 191B.

Q N l LL l Y* u; n! N N I 1 f N l N PETER KOZBIAL, `0F LATROBE, PENNSYLVANIA.
WIRE-CUTTER.
'To all whom z'may/ concern.'
Be it known that I, PETER KozBrAL, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing atfLatrobe, county of Westmoreland, and
-State of Pennsylvania`` have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wir'e- Cutters, of which the following is a specification. I f
The principal object of the-invention is the Aprovision of a wire cutter, preferably adapted for employment upon a gun, bayonet or other blade, for cutting either wire barriers and entanglements or4 similar obstades.
l A further object of the invention is to provide a'gun, etc., with a comparatively simple, durable andeflective attachment to the bayonet or Vthe like for cutting wires with the least possible exertion, and precluding all possibilities of getting out of order after an operation. v
This invention, stated in general terms, consists of a wire cutter embodying an eccentric for the operation of the cutter blades adapted to be readily and conveniently operated by the soldier.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this application', like reference characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views- Figure 1 is a side view of the device constructed according to the present invention with the cover plate removed, and
Fig. 2 is a top edge view with the cover plate in position upon the device.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, 10 indicates the bayonet of "a rifle, etc., upon which a sleeve 11 of the cutter 12 is seated and heldin position thereon by means of rods 13, 13 secured with their outer ends in theeyes 14, 14 of ears 15, 15 at the end of said sleeve and with their other ends to a gun or riiie in any convenient, well known manner forinir'ig no part o'f the present in'- vention. Y
. Intermediate its ends the, sleeve Y 11 is shaped to form a `casing 16. having an approximately circularbase 17, the outer end of which is extended and elongated into a neck part 18, ending in a circular part 19 and point 20. This casing is adapted to be Specification of Letters Patent.

covered by means of a similarly shaped cover 21, secured to its base part by means -of a screw 22 entering thepoint, and of screws 23, 23 entering holes 24, 24 suitably provided in eyes or ears 25, 25 of the casingflG.
Within the casing 17 an eccentric v26 is pvotally secured as at 27 to the innerfwall thereof and surrounded by a band having -aneck part 28 to which is pivotally secured,
as at 29, a movable cutter blade 30 adapted. to move within the neck part 18 and having a cutting front `edge 31 adapted to work against a stationary cutter blade 32 in the 'front part of said neck at the point 20. Be-
low and directly in front of said stationary' blade 32 the circular part 19 is provided with a suitable slotr33 for engaging and `guiding 'the wire to be cutbetween the blades. V To the pivot point of the eccentric is also iixedly secured a curved lever 34 for the manipulation of the eccentric and the movable blade.4 This arm is operated manually or by means of a pull rod 35 hooked with one of its ends into a hole 36 at the outer end of said arm or curved lever 34 by means of which the parts may also be returned into their original position in which they are ready to engage another wire to be cut. It is clear that the parts may also be returned into their normal position of rest by means of a suitable spring acting against the lever 34.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the class described, comprising in combination with the bayonet of a gun or riie, a sleeve seated upon said bayonet and adapted to be secured to the rifle` constituting a casing provided with a ne"k part and point, a movable cutter in said neck part, an eccentric pivotally mounted in said casing to which said movable cutter is pivotally secured, a stationary cutting blade in the outer end of said casing near the point thereof, and means for operating said eccentric and movable blade for cutting a wire introduced between the cutting edges of saidblades.
2. A device of the character described, comprising in combination with the bayonet of a gun or rifle, a sleeve seated upon said bayonet, means for securing said sleeve to the rifle, said sleeve comprising a semicircular bowl, anV elongated neck and a circular recessed part and aV point, a cover for said sleeve, means for securing said cover to said sleeve, an eccentric pivotally mounted 1n saidbovvl and surrounded by a band having' a neck, a longitudinally reciprocating cut- 5 ter blade pivoted to said neck, a stationary cutter blade in said circular part above said recess therein,` and'A 'means Jfor manually operating said eccentric andmovablebladefan eccentric in said casing; a. movable outter blade Vmounted for longitudinal" recipnocation. in 'said easing g' and pivoted to said `eccentric,- astat-ionary cutting. blade at the outerwefnd of saidvcasing,,mounted for cooperation ywith' 'said movable Ablade for `cui ting a Wire introduced between said. blades,
ai curved.r arm rigidly-- se'cured to said eccentric and an' operating rod for:` operating lsaideccentric-and. the movable blade in and out ofv cutting position. i
4. A4 device.. of the characterdescribed, comprisingin combination with .a bayonet bf a gun or `riflea hollow sleeve adapted tgo be seated upon said bayonet-afremo,vable c oven for said sleeve, ymeans fforf Securing :said 'cover to said sleeve, anzeccent'riolpivotally .secured tothe inner- Wall of -said copieslofxnis patent 'mgyteobtained fer' five cents each; addressing the okmmissioher'pg Patents'.
