Description
M. L. WEBSTER.
Heating-Stove. N0. 128,989, Patented July16,1872- ID STATES MILTON L. WEBSTER, on ALBANY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEATING'STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,989, dated July 16, 1872 antedated June 22, 187-2.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON L. WEBsrER, of the city and county of Albany, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heaters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which 4 Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the upper part of a heater, embodying the improvements in this invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical view of the same taken at line No.1 in Fig. 2.
The same letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention relates to that class of stoves denominated heaters; and consists in the combination of an outer mica light set in the sides of the outer jacket, with an inner mica light set in the sides of the inner cylinder, in such a manner that the fire within the heater will be exposed to view, and its condition be readily seen.
In the drawing, A represents the base of the heater. B is the section containing the lire-pot. O is the combustion-chamber, above the fire-pot. D is the usual drum, standing above the combustion chamber. E is the outer jacket, surrounding the wall E of the combustion-chamber. F is the outer jacket, surrounding the drum D. The outer jacket E and F are so arranged that the cold or fresh air can enter the annular spaces a a through the grating or ports a; w, in a direction indicated by arrows, to become heated by the radiation of heat from the combustion-chamber and the drum, and pass off through any suitable exit-pipe, G, or pipes, to the room or rooms to be heated, all of which are old and form no part of my invention; but this style of heater has heretofore had no means provided whereby the fire could be viewed from the outside to ascertain its condition, or to admit the passage of light from the combustion-chamber to the outside.
I also fix in the walls of the outer jacket E and opposite to the micas M M, (placed'in the 'walls E of the combustion-chamber,) a second mica, N, or a series of the same, set at a distance from the micas M, so as to leave an airspace between, which mica N will expose the first or inner micas M to view, and will permit the fire to be observed in an unobstructed manner'as readily as if the heater had only the one mica-lighted wall E in the same; the object of my invention being the exposure of the interior of the combustion-chamber and the fire, whereby the fire will be made to transmit its light through both the walls surrounding the combustion-chamber, and the jacket surrounding the same in a direct and unobstructed manner.
This invention is simple and comparatively inexpensive, and supplies the desideratum long desired in this class of heaters.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The combination of the mica N with the jacket E, when the said jacket surrounds the wall E of the combustiomchamber 0, provided with the mica M, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the outer and inner micas M and N having an air-space between, and located opposite each other, with aheater constructed with an inner wall surrounding the combustion-chamber, and an outer jacket surrounding the said mica wall, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
MILTON L. WEBSTER.
