IMPROVEMENT IN BU GGY-TOPS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,895, dated July S5, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH O. MGOULLY, of the 'city of Atchison, in the county of Atchison and in the State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bugg -Tops; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and'to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a buggytop/. as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In 'order to enable others skilled in the'art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my buggytop thrown up, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same when folded.

A represents the seat, to which is attached a railing, B, by means of the arms a a. The ends of the railing B are bent slightly upward, as shown, and to the extreme ends are pivoted the bows O O of the top. The front and rear bows are connected by means ofjointed braces D D. When the top is thrown up it is supported on each side by a perpendicular support, E, hinged or pivoted to the railing B and to the rear bow G. This support is made in two sections, hinged or jointed together at b, and from this joint a brace, G, leads forward to a suitable point on the railing B, where it is hinged or pivoted to the same. This brace G is also made in two sections, hinged or jointed together at c, and the front section of said brace is, at the joint 6, provided with a handle or lever, d, for breaking the joint. It will be seen that the supports E and braces G hold and support the top when it is folded or partially thrown up, as well as when thrown entirely up. The upper section of the support E may be jointed, if so desired, in which case the lower section should be stationary on the railing and the brace Gr connected with the support at this upper joint.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the railing B with arms a a, bows G G, jointed braces D D, jointed supports E E, and jointed braces G G, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for thepurposes herein set forth.
