Description

TED STATES PATE OFFIfiE.
Ross m. BICKLEY, or PITTSBURGH, PENNSY A, A CORPORATION or PENNSYLVANIA.
INQ, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVAINI ,LVANIA, ASSIGNOR To HEYL & PATTERSON,
APPARATUS FOR HANDLING COAL.
Application filed March 20, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ross M. BIGKLEY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Handling Coal; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to coal handling apparatus, and more especially of the character such as set forth and claimed in an application filed by me on the 13th day of March, 1915, Serial No. 14,155, in which the coal is screened, and one grade delivered to a rotary picking table where the refuse is removed and the coal discharged from said table to be mixed with coal of a different grade coming from the screen. The present invention has for its object to devise apparatus of this general character, which is compact in form and simple in construction. It consists, generally stated, in having two or more concentric rotary picking tables with means for delivering the coal thereto and discharging therefrom.
In the drawing, Figure l is a plan view of my improved apparatus; Fig. 2 is a side view; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 3-3, Fig. 1.
The numeral 2 designates a suitable platform elevated at a proper height, and upon said platform are arranged the uprights 3, which form bearings for the idlers 4, said idlers engaging the annular tracks 5 and 6 on the bottoms of the outer and inner picking tables 7 and 8, respectively. Each table is provided with an annular rack 9, and the tables are rotated by power imparted from the shaft 10. This shaft 10 has the bevelpinions 11. which engage the bevel-gears 12 on the vertical shafts 13. At the upper ends of the shafts 13 are the pinions 14, which engage the racks 9. In this manner, the tables 7 and 8 are rotated in the same direction.
The tables 7 and 8 are annular in form, leaving the space 15 and 16 on the inside, and the refuse-chutes 17 are arranged both inside and outside the tables for the recep- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 17, 1918.
Serial No. 15,233.
deck being used for the lump-coal; the intermediate deck 20 for the nut or egg; and deck 21 for the slack. The uppermost deck 19 discharges the lump-coal onto the outer table 7: the intermediate deck 20' discharges the egg and nut-coal onto the inner table 8, and the lowermost deck 21 discharges the slack into the chute The picked lump-coal is discharged from the outer table 7 by the guide-chute and the picked egg-coal from the inner table 8 by the chute 2%. These chutes 23 and 2- meet at a common point 25 where they are met by the slack coming from the chute 22, and are mixed before they pass into the loading-conveyer 26.
What I claim is:
1. In coal handling apparatus of the character described. the combination of two or more concentric annular rotary picking tables spaced apart whereby pickers may be located between said tables, means for rotating said tables. individual means for discharging different grades of coal onto each of said tables. and means for discharging the coal therefrom.
2. In coal handling apparatus of the character described. the combination of two or more concentric annular rotary picking tables spaced sufiieiently apart wherebv pickers may be located between said tables,
Leeeewe tables spaced sufficiently apart whereby In testimony whereof, I, the said Ross M. pickers may be located between said tables, BICKLIGY, have hereunto set my hand.
means for retatingsaid tab1es, indiYidual ROSS M. BICKLEY. means for discharging different grades 0f c0211 onto each Of said tables, and means for Witnesses:
discharging the coal therefrom to a common ROBT. D. TOT'I'EN,
point. 7 JOHN F. /VILL.
