Be it known that I, Gnonen WILLIS PEEK, a citizen of the United States. and resident of the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-- Board Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the present invention is to provide an ironing board cabinet of such construction that the ironing board can be extended for use, and occupying as small a space as practical, thereby rendering it possible to house the same in a thin wall.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved ironing board cabinet showing the ironin board collapsed; Fig. 2 is a vertical .sectlon thereof showing the ironing board extended for use.

Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates a cabinet having a back 2, a bottom 3,'side walls 4: and a door 5. Secured to said side walls and spaced from the back are vertically extending guides 6. A stop 7 is secured to the back and extends horizontally between the side walls approximately at the level of the tops of the guides. 8 indicates an ironing board supported by links 9 pivoted, as shown at 10, to the bottom 3 of the cabinet, and, as shown at 11, to the under side of the ironing board. Secured to the rear end of the ironing board isa transverse bearing strip .12 which has ends projecting beyond the side edges of the ironing board and movable between the guides and the back. Said strip has a convex upper surface 13, and the stop 7 has a concave under surface 14 to receive said upper surface 13 when the ironing board extends horizontally. Pivoted to the stop 7 is a hook 15 which can engage an eye 16 on the strip to lock the stop and strip together. It will be observed that said side walls 4 below said stop 7 are free from obstructions preventing the strip moving downward from the position in which the ironing board is horizontal, as shown in Fig. 2, to that in which it is vertical, in which latter position the ironing board is held by its top being engaged: by a turn- I buckle 17 pivotally mounted on a block 18 secured to the back 2 of the cabinet.

The above construction provides an ironing board cabinet in which the ironing board can be contained when not in use and which extends outward through but a small space, thereby permitting it to be built in a thin wall. Also by reason of the construction of the stop and strip havin rounded co-engaging parts, and of the en s of the strips sliding between the guides and the back, it is insured that the ironing board, when extended for use, is very firmly supported.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is In combination with a' cabinet having a back and side Walls, vertically extending guides secured to said'side walls and spaced from the back, a stop extending horizontally between the side walls approximately at the level of the tops of the guides and secured to the back, an ironing board, supporting links pivoted to the bottom of the cabinet and to the under side of the ironing board, and a transverse bearing strip secured on its rear end and having ends projecting beyond its side edges and between the guldes and back, said strip having-a convex upper surface and the stop having a concave under surface to receive said upper surface when the ironing board extends horizontally, and means respectively secured to said strip and stop and co-engaging each other to lock them together, said side walls below said stop being free from obstructions preventing the projecting ends of the strip from moving downward from the position in which the ironing board is horizontal to that in which it is vertical.
