Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed hpril 12,1918. Serial No. 228,170.
all it may concern graters, which act upon the vegetables being Beitknown that l, Eoiiuno A. Wrrrnncitizen of the United States, residing at Nevu-Braunfels, in the-county of Comal 7 n ..and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vegetable-Cutters,
of which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to vegetable cutters and aims to provide a device of this characcut or grated, the latter being deposited 3 within the receptacle through openings in said lid.
The invention also lncludes a novel form of vegetable holder, which is disposed above the lid and holds vegetables in such position that a shearing cut is obtained.
The invention further includes means for lremovably securing the receptacle to the op erating mechanism, so that the former may be removed for cleaning or for other puroses.
I j llVith theabove and other objects in view the invention still further includes the following novel combinations and arrangement of the various mechanisms, which will be hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whicz-- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the vegetable cutter embodying the present invention Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the same;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the receptacle removed from the remainder of the mechanism and illustrating the manner of securing one of the operating gears thereto;
' Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional View on the line 4-l of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the grater lid for the receptacle; and
Fig. 6 is a View similar to Fig. 3 showing the modified means of'securing the gear to the receptacle.
Referring in detail to the drawings, like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Inthe form of the invention illustrated, there is provided a frame, which may be either cast or formed of malleable material and bent to provide upper and lower bearing extended and folded upon itself to provide an additional bearing arm 12, which is alined with a standard 13. The bearing arms 10 and 11 support a shaft 14, which has secured at one end a beveled gear 15 and has its opposite end extended through the bearing arm 11 where it may be secured in position by means of a cotter pin 16 or other suitable fastening device. Mounted within hearings in the arm 10 and the standard 13 is a crank shaft 17, which has secured upon one end "a beveled gear 18, which meshes with and drives the gear 15 when operated by a handle 19, located at the opposite end of the shaft 17. The above geared frame is designed to be secured to a table T or other support through the medium of a clamp formed by the member 20 carried by the frame, and the clamping screw 21.
The gear 15 has formed thereon or secured thereto radial arms 22, which terminate in angular extensions 23, the latter being tapped to receive set screws 2d. Adapted to be reinovably secured to the arms 22 is a preferably cylindrical receptacle 25, which is provided with av lid 26, adapted to be removably secured thereto through the medium of-a bayonet slot and pin connection 27. The lid 26 is provided with radially disposed slots 28, in which are positioned cutting blades 29, so that when the vegetable is held in posi tion upon the lid of the receptacle, the knives Patented Dec. 10, 1918.
slice the said vegetable, the slices being de- 1 posited within the slots 28. r
For holding the vegetable in position above the lid26, there is provided an arm 30, which may be formed upon or secured to the standard 13. The free end of the arm is provided with a hook 31, the vegetable being positioned Within the angle-formed by the arm and hook for action upon it by the cutters.
The lid shown in Fig. 5 is similar to the one'previously described,in that it is provided with a bayonet slot connection, but instead of the slots and blades 29 and 29 respectively, agitating surface is formed in the lid, theimaterial grated from the vegetable passing through into the receptacle.
In 'ig. L the arms 22 are illustrated as connected to the bottom of the receptacle by means of screws 33.
Various other changes may be made in the receptacle through the form, proportion and minor details of construction and the right is reserved to make any changes that will properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is A vegetable cutter embodying a frame, a
receptacle, actuating mechanism therefon carried bythe frame, means for attaching said mechanism to said receptacle. cutim's disposed above and carried by the lok'vplnvh' and a vegetable holder located above the cut- 10 ters.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
