To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANCES a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Knitting-Bags, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the invention is to utilize a stifl'ened mouth portion of a knitting-bag as a means for measuring a knitted fabric, so that the proprietor of the bag may conveniently ascertain at any time the length of the fabric by a linear measure carried by the bag, and thus avoid the inconvenience of using a measure independent of the bag.

The invention consists in the improvements hereinafter described and claimed.

A bag embodying the invention includes a flexible body portion 12, having iiexible extensions 12 forming the mouth portion of the bag, stiiiening means secured to the outer portions of said extensions, the stiening means of each extension including a Hat elongated stilfening member 14. the inner face of which is offset inwardly from the accompanying extension 12, and a measure 13 backed by the inner face of one of said stiflening members and supported thereby at. the inner side of said extension, and offset inwardly therefrom, the arrangement being such that the measure is concealed when the bag is closed, and exposed for convenient use when the bag is opened.

As here shown, the member 14, which may be of any suitable relatively stii material, constitutes a part of the stiifening means, said means including a member 14 as an inner member, and an outer stifening member l5, spaced from the inner member 14, as shown by Fig 2. The members 14 and 15 are connected at their outer edges by a neck 16 forming a part of a strip of fabric cemented to said members and bridging the space between their outer edges, and ligatures 17 which may be formed by strands of sewing thread connecting the end portions of said members and spaced inwardly from the neck 16.

lwwise secured, to the outer side of the inner member 14, and the measure 13 is secured to the inner side of the member 14, so that both the inner side of the member 14, and the measuring strip are offset inwardly from the extension 12l The measure is therefore supported by the member 14 in position for convenient use when the bag is opened, and is protected and concealed when the bag is closed.

rfhe members 14 and 15 and the connecting means 16 and 17 are utilized to secure to the bag two flexible cords Which are looped to form neck portions 18 interposed between the members 14 and 15, and loose handle portions 1S adapted to depend from the'ends of the members 14 and 15, and lie against the outer side of the bag when not in use, so that when the measure is exposed for use, at the inner side of the outer portion of the bag, it is not obstructed by the accompanying handle portion 18.

The measure 13 may be a graduated strip of paper, or other suitable material, cemented to the member 14, or to the facing strip of which the neck 16 is a part. A portion of said strip may be covered by an ornamental facing strip 20, as shown.

I claim:

1. A knitting-bag comprising a exible body having side extensions forming the mouth portion of the bag, stiffening means secured to the outer portions of said extensions, the stiifening means of each extension including a fiat elongated inner stiilening member attached to the inner side of the accompanying extension, and a Hat elongated outer stiffening member spaced from said inner member, means being provided for connecting said members, flexible cords looped to form neck portions interposed between said stiffening members, and loose handle portions adapted to depend from the ends of said members and lie against the outer sides of the bag when notl in use, and a measuring strip backed by the inner face of one of the said inner stiii'ening members and supported thereby offset inwardly from the inner side of the accompanying extension, said measure being concealed when the bag is closed, and exposed without obstruction by the accompanying handle portion when the bag is opened.
