CARL W. ANDERSON, OFISHPEMING, MICHIGAN.
CARD-HOLDING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 11 1916. Serial No. 119,361. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL a citizen of the United States, residing at Ishpeming, in the county of Marquette and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Card-Holding Devices, of which the following is a, full clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to card holding devices and is more particularly applicable to those card holding devices which may be readily attached to plates or trays, or such other articles holding merchandise, such as candy, for instance.
My improved device is of such a character that it can be readily attached to hold a card vertically or horizontally as the case may be, and the position of the card may be readily adjusted to suit the requirements.
The device is adaptable for use with dishes made of thick or thin material, and having either a straight, rounded, or irregular outline. The device for instance can be readily attached to display the price of articles in a five and ten cent store and more particularly in window displays.
I will explain my invention more in detail by referring to the accompanying drawing illustrating the same, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of the device designed for attachment to a bowl, and
Fig. 2 shows the device of Fig. 1 applied to itl container having a comparatively thick wa My improved device consists of a strip or back portion 1, to which is suitably riveted or otherwise secured a cooperating clamping W. ANDERSON,
strip 2. These two strips are spring-like.
and thus hold the device in position when placed upon a bowl 3, for instance. The device 1 has punched retainer catches 4, which act as spring clips to retain a card 5 when same is placed thereon. It will be seen that the card may be mounted in several different places, thus to make the device adj ustable, for purposes readily understood.
In'Fig. 2 I show the device as applied to a receptacle having a comparatively thick wall 3, and showing how the yielding catch adapts itself to the difierent thicknesses.
In Fig. 1 it will be noted that the device is applied to a container having a comparatively thin wall 3. Thus, it readily lends itself for use in connection with various containers as usually found in the average store.
Having however thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A card holder of the character described comprising a straight base strip made of resilient metal, said base strip being wider at the top. to form a backing for a card, a second resilient metallic strip riveted to the lower portion of said base strip and extending parallel therewith, said two resilient strips at their extremity forming clamping jaws whereby the device a plate. or box, and card supporting'clips punched at different heights throughout the available length of said first aforesaid strip for supportingcards.
' In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this sixth day of September, A. D. 1916.
CARL W. ANDERSON.
Witness:
HANS GU'NDERSON.
