IMPROVEMENT lN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,562, dated July 2, 1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Bed-Bottom, invented by HENRY B. RAMSEY,

.This invention relates to a new arrangement of the supporting-springs and cross-bars of a bed-bottom. It consists in the combination of flat springs fastened in the middle with the cross-bars and of cushions interposed between said springs andthe cross-bars, and with rubber or leather plates placed upon the cross-bars and under the slats, as hereinafter more fully described.
A A, in the drawing, are the slats; B B, the cross-bars of the.bed-bottom. The slats are, by screws or nails, firmly secured to the cross-bars. Strips a a, of leather or rubber, are interposed between the slats and crossbars, as shown, to prevent wear and squeakin g. To the middle of each cross-bar is secured,
at the under side, the middle of a supporting spring, 0, the ends of the spring being free and projecting downwardly, as shown in Fig. 1. The springs are to rest on the bedsteadrails, but are padded with rubber b, or leather, to be noiseless. In order to strengthen the springs and give a more firm support to the cross-bars cushions d cl, of rubber, or spiral springs, may be interposed between B and G, as shown.
A bed-bottom thus made will be strong, elastic, noiseless, and self-balancin g, the weight of a person on one side not interfering with the other side.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patcut- The combination of the slats A, cross-bars B, springs 0, strips a, pads b, and cushions d, as set forth.
