IMPROVEMENT IN WOOD PAVEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,471, dated July 2, 1872.
To whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JAMES DEEoE, of De troit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement i'n Wood Pavements; and I do de- Clare that the followingis a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of a section of my improved pavement. Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 is a detached block.

The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in wood pavements, by means 0f which the usual floor or planking usually placed between the lower ends of the blocks and the sand or earth may be dispensed with, thereby effecting a large saving in lumber,
labor, and expense. The invention consists in the peculiar shape given to the blocks, and the manner of laying the same.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents cylindrical blocks of wood of irregular sizes, but cut to regular lengths. The lower ends of these blocks are made wedge-shaped, as shown at B, and the osets or shoulders C are cut at right angles with the perpendicular sides of the block, as shown.
