Description

WILLIAM P'ARRISH. v Impr vement in Gang-Plow. "NO-128,245. Patentedlune25,18 72,.
I Fig. I.
WITNESSES. INVENTOR.
JWWW f UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM PARRISH, OF DAYTON, OREGON.
IMPROVEMENT IN GANG-FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,245, dated June 25, 1872. I
' by declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.-
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of aside elevation, and Fig 2 is a top view of my invention.
My invention has relation to gang-plows; and consists in the novel construction and arran gement of the pivoted caster-beam, operating lever, and slotted plow-beam, hereinafter described, for the purpose of enabling the operator to regulate the depth of the furrow at will.
A of the drawing represents the main beam of my plow; and B, the auxiliary beam, to each of which I attach a plow, in the manner shown. The letter 0 represents a screw-bolt that connects the plow-beams at their front ends, and D is a block interposed between said beams, as shown. The letter E represents a caster-wheel attached to the front end of the casterebeam G. This beam G serves as the head of the caster-wheeh-and also as a pivoted lever, operating as hereinafter mentioned. I attach a staple, H, to this caster-beam, and to the top thereof I affix the operating-lever K, which extends rearward to the handles of the plow. The lever K is notched on its under side in the form of a ratchet-bar, and the notches adapted to fit and engage with the cross-bar a, between the plow-handles. By moving this lever back or forth the casterwhoel is made to assume the position desired,

and thereby the depth of furrow regulated. The ratchet-teeth on said bar enable the operator to secure the caster in place, and. this is accomplished by adjusting said-ratchet upon the cross-bar a.
In order to provide against too great rigidity of action in my plow, I arrange the right-hand plow-beam in such manner that it may act to some extent independently of the other in its vertical movements. This result is secured by adapting the screw-bolt O to serve as a pivot-pin, by slotting the connecting-beam c, as shown at f, and also by slotting the rear end of said right-hand beam, as shown at n, to serve as a guide, but not as an attachment to the plowhandle. By the means enumerated in this paragraph, an independent vertical movement is permitted to said right-hand plow, by which it is freed from rigidity when the left-hand plow is raised or lowered by the What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The caster E, beam G, adjustable screw G, lever K, and cross-bar a, constructed combined, and arranged in a plow, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a gang-plow having two or more beams Witnesses:
