To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WAL'I'ER T. NoRvnLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morrill, in the county of Scotts Blufi and State of Nebraska, have invented. new and useful Improvements in Mail-Box Supports, of .which the following is a specificatlon.

The-invention relates to improvements in supports for mail boxes, and seeks to provide as its principal object a durable, eflicient and simple device of this character, particularly serviceable on rural free delivery routes. 1

As a'further object, provision is made for means to permit the device to be used for holding boxes of various heights.

In illustrating the invention, a specific form has been adhered to, but to this particular form the invention is not to be reof the box obscured in Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, 1 is a post which may be made of any suitable material (preferably steel or iron) and this post is triangular in cross section, having afiixed to it near its lower end the triangular plates 2 which are secured one to each of the three sides of the post. The free corners of these plates 2 project beyond the sides of the post, and when the latter is buried in the ground and the dirt firmly tamped around it, these projecting corners offer an extra resistance to any force tending to knock the post over.

Near the upper end of the post 1, an angular brace 3 is attached by rivets or other suitable means. This brace consists of the horizontal leg 4, and the diagonal leg 5 which are integrally connected together at the ends remote from those attached to the post.

Riveted at their longitudinal centers to the horizontal leg 4 and positioned trans- .versely thereon, so that they will lie in a horizontal plane, there are clamping members 6. These clamping members have their ends formed to provide ears 7. Cooperating w th the clamping members '6 are the clamping members 8. These members 8 are U-shaped, and have their legs terminating in cars 9 which are similar to ears 7. Both the ears 9 and ears 7 have holes at theircenters and through these holes bolts 10 pass, the latter receiving on their threaded ends the nuts 11. By means of these bolts, the clamping members 8 are attached to the clamplng members 6, the heads of the bolts abutting the ears 9 and the nuts 11 abutting the ears 7. The clamping members 8 straddle the mail box 12and, when the pair of clamplng members are secured together by the bolts 10, the mail box 12 is securely held This mail box 12 is intended to be of any conventional form being provided with the usual pivotally mounted apron on the front, which may be raised to permit mail to be inserted into the box and being provided at the back with a door 14 which may be opened to permit the removal of mail from the interior of the box. A suitable locking means 15 is provided for the door 14. I The manner of attaching the mail box is obvious in the disclosure in the drawings, and it is also obvious that the height of diffenent boxes attached to the support may vary greatly without requiring any modification of the attendant parts of the support, the bolts 10 permitting the clamping members 6 and 8 to be varied in their dlstances from each other to suit any height of box within reasonable limits.
