A bar or buffer 27 is formed upon the inner end of the plunger 23 and it has a pair of contractile springs 28 connected thereto which are seated in recesses 29 formed'i'n the bearing members 19 and 20 and they havetheir'in nermost ends connected to the bearing members for moving the buffer 27 inwardly toward the casing 16 and for forcing the button or head 24 outwardly.
' When the button 24 is moved inwardly within the casing 16, the meshing engagement between the pinion 17 and the rack teeth 15 will move the bar 14 vertically, which" will, through the meshing engagement of the rack teeth 13 with the pinion 12 rotate the'shaft 10 and consequently r0- tate the crank mechanism composed of the arm 9 and rod 8 aboutthe'axis of the shaft 10 for swinging the transom 2 upon its pivot 3 into an open position, and when the plunger 23 and. head 24 are forced outwardly by the actionof the springs 28, the bar 14 will be moved inan opposite direction which will-rotate the shaftv 10 in an opposite direction and swing the transom upon its pivot 3 to a closed position. 7 Y

The support 31 is substantially U-shaped and thepin 30 has-a collar 32 formed thereupon which engages the inner surface" of the'outer leg or side 33 of-the U-shaped' supporting bracket 31 for limitingthe outward movement of thelocking 55. mounted a pin 41. :Thepin 41 hasa head pin 30. The locking pin 30 has a shank 37 formed pivotal m ovethereupon which is slidably'seated in the plunger 23. "The shank 37 has-an opening 38 extending-transversely therethrough, one
side of which is inclined throughout a portion of its distance as shown at 39 in'Fig.
2 of the drawings. The plunger 23 is provided with a bore 40 in which is slidablv 3 42 formed upon its outer end which'pro- -jects through the' closing plate 26- iof the cap 24.;FA spring 43 is *coiledaboutthe pin 41,:and. has one end connected': to the a [pin and the-other end to: the plate -26 so .that the action of-the spring wil1=hold the pin 41 outwardly except when'fit -iszforo'ed inwardly by 'manual pressure. In the operation of the improved transom operator, 'thepin 41 is first forced inwardly whichreleases the catch structure and moves the head 42 into engagementwith the outer surface of the plate26 so that further in ward movement will move the plunger 23 inwardly and rotate the shaft 18 through themeshing engagement betweenrthe teeth 22 formed upon the plunger and the pinion 21 which is carried by theshaft '18.; The
