lMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-CUTTING IMPLEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,021, dated June 18, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful 1m provement in Photograph-Trimmer, invented by J AMIES 000K, of Grand Manan, inthe county of Oharlotte,Province of New Brunswick, Dominion of Canada.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved instrumentfortrimmingphotographs and doing other similar work which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and
reliable in operation, doing its work rapidly and without danger of tearing the photograph being trimmed; and it consists in the instrument constructed as hereinafter more fully described.
A is a circular cutter, which is attached to the end of a small cylinder, B, in such a way that its edge may overlap the edge of the form or size plate which is laid upon the photograph to be trimmed. I prefer to face the cylinder B with rubber, first, to prevent it from slippin g upon the form or size plate; and, second, and especially so, that, as the cutting-edge of the cutter A wears down, by bearin g a little harder upon the instrument, the said rubber may be compressed to allow the edge to still project sufficiently to overlap the edge of the form or size plate and trim the photograph. O is a short journal or shaft, which passes longitudinally through the cylinder B and through the centerof the cutter A, and to its end, at the outer side of the cutter A, is attached a handle, D, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In using the instrument for trimming photographs, the form or size plate is placed upon the photograph and held by hand or by any suitable mechanical device. The trimmer is then placed upon the form or size plate, with the edge of the cutter A overlapping and pressed squarely against the edge of the form or size plate, which serves as a guide to the instrument. As the instrument thus arranged is moved forward the photograph is trimmed off close to the edge of the form or size plate, the cutter A cutting downward as it rolls along so as to cut the paper at the edge of the form or size plate, and in such a way that the. photograph cannot be torn, as it is liable to be when trimmed in the ordinary manner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The combination of the circular cutter A,
cylinder B, whether faced with rubber or not, shaft or journal 0, and handle D with each other, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
' JAMES COOK.
