SUPPORTiNG CRADLE ATTACHMENT'FOR IRONING BOARDS.
APPLICATION man MAY 3|. 1918.

UNITED STATES PAT NT OFFICE.
DAVID QSSRY, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
SUPPORTING-CRADLE ATTACHMENT FORIRONIN G-BOARDS Specification of Letters Patent. Pate t d S t 3 Application filed May 31, 1918. Serial No. 237,643.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, Dnvln OSSRY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Portland, county of Mult'nomah, State of Oregon, have invented a certain new and'useful Improvement in Supporting-Cradle Attachments for Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is toprovide, as an attachment for the ironing board, a folding cradle or receptacle for. holding the ends of the material lapping over the sides of the ironing-board and keeping them off the floor. Such attachment is most desirable, for without it said ends would be dragged over the floor as the article is moved across the ironing-board, and in consequence in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective an ironing board hinged at one end to a vertical support, and supported at its free end by a companion post-like support, and the ends of the framework of my foldable cradle are fastened to said vertical supports;
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the frame of my foldable cradle, such section being taken substantially on a line pointed by the arrow 2 of Fig. 1, looking toward thepostlike support of the free end of the ironing board;
Fig. 3 is a similar section as Fig. 2, except that the frame of my foldable cradle is adjusted in its folded position;
Fig. 4 shows a detail, in perspective, of the manner of fastening the longitudinal frame members to the upper ends of, the arms; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmental detail of the apron showing the seam provided at the longitudinal middle of the apron for holding a weight for keeping the apron taut, and causing the apron to automatically fold upon itself when my cradle is closed.
a is an upright support preferably arranged in the form of a cabinet, being provided with a drawer b for water, and'drawer c for a sponge or cloth; also with an ironholding top (Z. On the upright support, a,
is fastened a cleat e, and thereto is hinged the ironing or presser board f. The free end of the latter is supported by an upright post 9, the upper end of which is preferably made with adowel, so as to fit in a corresponding cavity provided'on the lower side of the roning-board f, as shown at 7', so as to more securely hold the latter.
Between the upright supports, a, g, is fastened my foldable cradle. The latter comprises a skeleton frame the ends of which are made of arms h, i, pivoted at their lower ends, as at j, and said lower ends have'abutting projections 70, so as to limit the outward movement of the arms when the foldable cradle is opened to a V-shaped position. The upper ends of said arms h, i are preferably supported by supplemental brace rods Z, m; the extremities of the arms h, i and the brace rods Z, m being adapted to slide one over the other, for which purpose the brace rods Z, m may be made with a slot 11.
and the arms with a pin 0. The lower ends of the arms, at each end of the frame, are
connected by longitudinal frame-members,
as 10, and the upper ends of said arms are and to automatically fold upon itself when my cradle is closed, the longitudinal middle of the apron is mad'e'with a loop t for "receiving a weight, which preferably consists of a rod u, or plurality of rod pieces as convenient.
In order to stiffen the frame, the longitudinal frame-members have intermediate an angle to each other when the cradle is opened, an apron attached at its sides to the top of said skeleton frame, said apron being weighted along its longitudinal mlddle, and thereby to cause the apron automatically to fold at its middle when said frame is closed.
2. In combination. with the upright supports of an ironing board or the like, a foldable cradle comprising a frame foldable uponv itself lengthwise, each end vof the frame comprising apair of arms pivoted at their lower ends to the related upright support, the lower ends of said arms being adapt ed to abut with each other and thereby limit the Outward movement of said arms on. their pivots, suppleinental, adjustable brace rods connecting the upper ends of said arms with said upright supports, longitudinal framemembers connecting the upper and lower ends of said arms of the frame ends, an apron reinovably attached at its sides to the upper of said longitudinal frame members, said apron being weighted. along its longitudinal middle, and thereby to cause the apron. automatically to fold at its middle when said frame is closed.
3. In combii'iation wit-h the upright supports of an ironing board or the like, a foldable cradle comprising a frame foldable upon. itself lengthwise, each end of the frame comprising a pair of arms pivoted at their lower ends to the related upright support, the lower ends of said arms being adapted to abut with each other and thereby limit the outward movement of said arms on their pivots, supplemental adjustable brace rods connecting the upper ends of said arms with said upright supports, longitudinal frame members connecting the upper and lower ends of said arms of the frame ends, said upper longitudinal frame members being removable, an apron provided with loops at each side adapted for being slipped over the upper of said longitudinal frame members, said apron being weighted along its longitudinal middle, and
thereby to cause the apron to automatically fold at its middle when said frame is closed.
ft. in combination with the upright supports of an ironing board or the like, a 'l'oldable cradle cmnprising a frame foldable upon itself lengtlnvise, each, end. of the; frame comprising a pair of arms pivoted at their lower ends to the related upright support, means for supporting said arms at an angle to each other when the cradle is; opened, longitudinal frame members connecting the upper and lower ends of said arms of the frame ends, said upper longitudinal frame members being removable, an apron provided wijgh loops at each side adapted for being slipped over the upper of said longitudinal frame members, said apron being also provided with a loop at its longitinlinal middle and a rod-like weightcontained in the latter loop, and thereby to cause the apron automatically to fold at its middle when said frame is closed.
5. In combinatioi'i with the upright supports of an ironing board or the like, a foldable cradle comprising a frame foldable upon itself lengthwise, each end of the frame comprising a pair of arms pivoted at their lower ends to the related upright support, means for supporting said arms at an angle to each other when the cradle is opened, supplemental, adjustable brace rods connecting the upper ends of said arms with said upright supports, longitudinal frame members connecting the upper and lower ends of said arms of the frame ends, said upper longitudinal frame members be ing removable, an apron provided with loops at each side adapted for being slipped over the upper of said longitudinal frame members, said apron being weighted along its longitiulinal middle, thereby to cause the apron automatically to fold at its middle when said frame is closed, and intermediate brace-cleats removably fastened to the longitudinal frame members.
