The. present-invention haswfor its object to produce a device of the class described which will be simple in construction and capable of being easily installed upon the."
frame of any ordinary conventional corn planter.
A further object of the invention is to produce a lifting device which when disassembled for shipment will occupy but little space and which may be readily assembled and installed on the frame of a corn planter.
A further object of the invention is to produce a device of the class described, the parts of which will be simple in construction and easily assembled or disassembled.
lVith these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the parts of the improved device, including the tubular shaft, the limiting collars, the shaft bearings, the lifting arms, and the marker loop, disassembled.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view showing the rearward portion of a planter frame to gi ueanoa fiid ra an 9; iaiai. seriai'no 16,368.?
which the invention has been applied and including; alsothe markers Fig; is -a rear elevation of the same.
Fig. 4 isasideielevationr 1 j 1 Corresponding parts in; the several figures o f the drawing. are denoted by like-charactersof reference. c 1 j The improved appliance-or planter attachmentincludes-atubular shaft 15', bracket 1 membersl-G: having eyes l'l'qthat constitute bear ngs for the shaft 15, liftingarms A,
one ateachend of the, tubular shaft, limiting eollars 1% whereby the shaft lt'ris re- 7 tamed ln.its. bearings, a. foot .leverB de- 1! tachably connected with the shaft, andga marker loo-p 19 adapted te beisecured onthe staff 20 of the" conventional marker-which is shown as consisting of a disk 21 associated with the..marker"staif.
brackets or bearing members are provided with apertures 22 for the passage of bolts 23 whereby said brackets are secured on the side members 24 of the planter frame from which they extend in a downward direction. The foot lever B, which is suitably shaped so as to extend across the ing 17 of one of said bracket members; the
foot lever B is then placed on the shaft and the latter is now passed through the bearing of theother bracketmember. The limiting collars 18 are now placed in osition adjacent to the outer faces of the racket members 16 and the foot lever may now be properly adjusted and secured.
- Each of the lifting arms A is curved so as to extend beneath the marker stafi 20 and each of said lifting arms has a terminal clamp 28 provided with a bolt 29 whereby it may be secured in position. Each lifting arm has a terminal finger 30 and a lug 31 extending approximately at right angles to said finger. Secured on the marker stafi is the loop or keeper 19 which receives the finger 30 of one of the lifting arms, the lugtioned and arranged that when properly assembled and applied to a planter, wlth the loop of the marker staff engaging the,
' shaft 15 in its bearings, thereby lifting the marker clear of the ground and holding it in this position until the machine has been turned. r
The marker, which is connected with the frame of the machine in the customary manner by a joint. 32, will now be swung manually or in any convenient well known manner into engagement with the lifting arm at the opposite side of the machine.
The improved lifting device for mark ers, as seen from the foregoing description, is extremely simple in its construction and is capable of being supplied in disassembled condition, permitting the parts thereof to be packed in small compass. The parts, moreover, are of such a nature as to enable the device to be very easily and quickly R installed on the frame of any ordinary corn planter.-
Copies of this patent may be obtained for Havingthus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A lifting device for planter markers, comprising bracket members having eyes forming bearings-a shaft supported in said bearings, limiting collars on the shaft adjacent to the bearings, a foot lever mounted adjustably on the shaft intermediate the bearings, and lifting arms mounted on the ends of the shaft, in combination with a supported marker staff having a loop for engagement with one of the lifting arms.
2. The combination with a planter-frame, of a marker staf'f having a loop secured thereto, bearing members secured on the planter frame, a shaft in said bearing members, a foot lever onthe shaft intermediate the bearing members, and lifting arms mounted on the ends of the shaft, each of said lifting arms having a terminal finger for engagement with the loop of the marker stafl",'and a lug forming an offset whereby the engagement of the loop on the marker staff with the finger of the lifting arm is limited.
' In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
