To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK C. KIRKPAT- RICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tupelo, in the county of Lee and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cultivators, and
particularly to the blades or shovels thereof,
aiming primarily to simplify and improve the construction and operation of devices of this character, as well as to increase their eiiiciency.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide an improved cultivator blade standard and blade, =so construct-ed as to permit of blades of various sizes being quickly and easily applied to the standard, and rest upon the latter so as to prevent accidental detachment of the same.
A further object of the invention is to tion, which embodies mechanism of simple construction and of easy operation, and
which will prove thoroughly practical and eflicient in use.
WVith these objects'in view, together with others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel formation, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as will be described, illustrated in the drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

The distance between the under faces of the angular portions 10 of the lugs and the rear face of the blade or shovel 8 is substantially equal to the thickness of the standard adjacent the openings 7. When the blade has been applied to the forward face of the standard 5 and at the lower edge thereof, the lugs 9 will enter their respective openings, and upward sliding movement delivered to the blade or shovel will cause the hooked 0r angular portions of the lugs to engage behind the metal defining the edges of the openings. When the blade 8 is moved downwardly, the hooked or angular portions 10 of the lugs will pass from behind the edges of the openings, whereupon the blade may be readily withdrawn from the standard.
WVith the parts so positioned, the blade cannot become detached from the standard, and will be held rigidly thereto.
Pivoted adjacent its lower end between the ribs 6 is a bar 11, which constitutes a lever for holding the lugs 9 properly locked to the standard. The pivots 12-for this lever are disposed between the spaced openings 7 in the standard, and. the lever is provided with upper and lower cam faces 13 and 14 respectively. It will be observed that the upper cam face 13 extends beyond the forward edge of the lever, a greater distance than the lower cam face 14:, and it will be further observed that the said cams are of different inclinations.
