SUPPORT FOR JAIL-HAMMOCKS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1918.
Application filed October 2, 1916. Serial No. 123,413.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W'ALTER D. CoUoH, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Atlanta, county of Fulton, State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for J ail-Hammocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a support for hammocks particularly adapted to suspend the hammock from bars, rails or similar devices. The objects of the invention are to provide such a device which may be easily attached to the hammock, will permit lateral adjustment of the hook member and will suspend the hammock so that it may adjust itself as much as possible when being occupied. Other objects will be apparent from the description taken in connection with the drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a plan view of a hammock support, showing the same attached to one corner of a hammock;
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
As clearly shown in the drawings, a piece of sheet metal may be bent to form the two parallel sections 10 and 11 connected by the curved portion 13. The two flat sections 10 and 11 are spaced apart a proper distance so as to embrace therebetween the doubled over end 14: of the body portion 15 of the hammock. This doubled-over end 14: which may consist of any number of thicknesses of the hammock body is adapted to be held in position and attached to the fiat sections by any suitable means, such as the rivets 16. A piece of bar metal is bent up to form the rectangularly shaped member or link 17. One side of this latter member. preferably that side which includes the ends 18 and 19 of the bar is pivotally seated in the curved portion 13. A hook member 20 is pivotally and slidingly mounted on the opposite side of the rectangular member by having one Copies of this patent may be obtained for end 21 thereof bent around the said side. The opposite end 22 is bent up so that a hook member is formed.
In assembling the support it will be noted that the hook member is very easily and quickly attached to the rectangular member and that the rectangular member is very readily inserted between the flat plates 10 and 11. Thus a support is formed which has three members all pivotally connected together. By this means pivotal movement can take place between the rounded section 13 and the cooperating side of the rectangular member and also pivotal movement can take place between the hook member and the opposite side of the rectangular member. Obviously a hammock supported by this means will be more comfortable than one supported by a device which has a single pivotal connection only. The supports are adapted to be attached to the ends of the hammock and while two are generally used, it is obvious that any desired number may be utilized. By having the hook member 20 slidable on the rectangular member 17 considerable lateral adjustment is provided so that the hook can catch on horizontally extendin bars without interfering with the vertica ones.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A support for a hammock comprisin in combination, a piece of sheet metal out along its middle part to form two fiat and parallel sections connected by a curved por tion, said flat sections adapted to receive the ends of a hammock in the space between them, a rectangular link having one of its sides seated in the said curved portion and a hook member slidingly and rotatively mounted on the opposite side of said link.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
