FLYCATCHER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J une 18, 1918.
Application fi1ed September 28, 1917. Serial No. 193,783.
T0 aZl wkom z't may concern:
Be it lmown that I, CLIFEORD SHATAL- non, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in Flycatchers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a fiy catcher, and the object is to provide a frame for holdin a sheet of adhesive fly paper, and designed to be used for catching flics by a sweep of the hand when the device is grasped in the manner in Which a fan is held. The article may be employed where flies assemble in considerable numbers, and is also suitable for general use.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the wire frame for holding the paper.
The frame comprising the main portion of the device may, if so desired, be formed of a single piece of wire bent into suitable form for providing a handle portion and a plurality of wing portions, the latter being adapted to engage and support the adhesive fly paper. The handle is designated 10 and may comprise a plurality of lengths of wire crossing each other or twisted together at 12, and portions extending lengthwise with reference to the handle 10, the wire bein bent at a sharp angle at the points 14 and being deflected in the direction shown for forming arms or members 15, Which latter are deflected and form an engaging device 16, the latter projecting at an angle with the plane of the wings. The continuons wire member is again deflected to form side portions 17 extending t0 angular portions 18, whcre the wire is again deflected and crosses member 15, the extreme end forming a barb or engaging device 20, extending in a direction opposite to members 16, and designed to engage the adhesive fly paper from the opposite side.
The shoot of adhesivc material is passed between the wing members, so that members 19 Will contact With one surface of the paper and members 17 with the other surface thereof. The paper is then engaged by portions 16, 18 and 20 of each wing, and is securely held in position when the device is subjected to somewhat rough usage.
What is claimed is:
In a device of the class described, a handle portion of wire or the like including a plurality of prongs the ends of which are bent to form wings for supporting a shoot of adhesive paper, the prongs being first deflected at an angle with each other and in opposite directions, thon defiected upwarclly from the plane of the wings pro er, thon deflected longitudinally With re erence to the prongs, and finally deflected at an acute angle with reference to said prongs, and to a point adjacent the shank portions of the prongs and barbs carried by the ends of said deflected members and projecting in a direction opposite to the aforesaid upwardly turned portions, whereby a sheet of paper is engaged on opposite edges and on both sides by the deflected elements and is retained against movement in all directions.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CLIFFORD SHATALRQE.
