Description

A. R. BRITT. NURSING BOTTLE. APPLICATION men AUG.8. 1916.
Patented May 21,1918.
Invwv0rx ALLIEBEL R. ZBBI'IT, OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPFI.
NURSING-BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1918.
Application filed August 8, 1916. Serial No. 113,839.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. ALLIEBEL R. BRIT-r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, county of Hinds, State of hli'ssissippi, have invented a new and useful Nursing-Bottle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends improvements in nursing bottles of that type designed to permit of the flow or gravitation of the milk to the nipple without facilitatin the lifting of the bottle above a horizonta plane, and further compelling the nipple to be filled with milk at the end of each nursing or feeding, thus preventing the nursing child from contracting colic, as is occasioned by bottles now in use, owing to the fact that the nipples are only in a partially filled condition.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts which will hereinafter be more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claims.
Figure 1 is a perspective view;
Fig. 2 is .a side elevation;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing the portion of the nipple and cap broken away;
Fig. L is a front elevation; and
Fig. 5 is a rear elevation.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the nursing bottle generally comprises a hollow cylindrical body portion 5 of equal diameter throughout its length and provided with a closed rear end wall 6 and an open forward end 7. Obviously, the bottle here illustrated is formed of glass and the marginal edge of the closed rear end wall 6 gradually diverges as at 8 below the body portion 5 and to opposite sides thereof to provide a broadened horizontally disposed foot 9, and the purpose of such foot is to support the bottle when in a filled condition in convenient reach of the child and prevent the child when nursing from upsetting the bottle. I aim in the provision of a nursing bottle desi ed not only to permit of the nipple to file attached thereto for convenience when the child is nursing, but which will further aid in rendering the bottle sanitary, due to the fact that the nipple will be full of milk at the end of each feeding, consequently preventing the colic in infants which is customarily caused by the air sucked from a nipple when the latter is only partially filled with milk. To this end, I provide on the lower surface of the body 5 at a point adjacent to the open end 7 and rearwardly thereof, a downwardly and forwardly inclined neck 10 communicating at its inner end with the interior of the body 5, and provided at its outer end with an enlarged circular outlet opening 11. The wall of the neck arranged directly below the open end 7 of the body is concaved to provide a channel 12 permitting of the rubber cap 13 to be readily assembled or disassembled over the open end 7 of the body, and further serves conveniently for the child to grasp the neck 10 when usin the bottle. The nipple, denoted by the c aracter 14, is here illustrated as embracing the outlet 11 of the neck, and due to the fact that the neck projects beyond the cap 13, facilitates the application of the nipple to or the removal of the same from the neck. Provided on the exterior portion of the neck 10 at a point diametrically opposite the channel 12, is a depending projection 15 terminating in a line with the bottom edge of the foot 9 and serves to support the bottle in a horizontal plane when in use and cause the fluid, designated by the character 16, contained within the body to flow into the neck 10 by gravity and further retain the nipple 14 in a filled condition after each feeding or nursing. Due to the fact that the neck 10 is arranged in adjacent relation to the filling opening 7 of the body, and that the respective inlet and outlet of the neck is flared, serves as convenience for cleansing the neck and retaining the bottle in a sanitary condition, and to further assist in flushing the bottle, I provide in the closed end wall 6 thereof an opening 17 which may be closed in any suitable manner, such as a cork or the like, not shown.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of construction and the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that .rear end wall and an open forward end, a broadened foot portion diverging from the marginal edge of the closed end wall, a neck communicating with the body, provided on the under surface thereof and projecting forwardly of the open forward end of the body, a cap for closing the open forthe open end of said neck.
2'. Anursing bottle embodying a hollow cylindrical body portion comprising a closed rear end wall and an open front end, a supward end of the body, a nipple for closing 'port formed flush with the closed end wall of the body and depending therefrom, a neck formed integral with the body at a point in rear of and adjacent the open forward end thereof, the wall ofthe neck at a a point directly below the open forward end of the body being provided with a channel, a cap for closing the open forward end of the body, and a nipple on the forward end of said neck.
3. A nursing bottle embodying ahollow cylindrical body portion comprising a closed rear end wall and an open front end, a support formed flush with the closed end wall of the body and dependingtherefrom, a neck formed integral with the body at a point in rear of and adjacent the open forward end thereof, the wall of the neck at a point directly fbelow the open forward end of the body being provided with a channel, a cap for closing the open forward end of the body, a nipple on the forward end of said neck, and a projection formed on the wall of the neck at a point diametrically opposite the point of formation of the channel.
