IMPROVEMENT IN MlTER-BOXES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,669, dated May 14, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

- Be it known that we, JAMES W. BOWER, of Green castle, in the county of Putnam and State of Indiana, and ALoNzo D. MOHLER, of Huntin gton, in the countyof Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Miter-Boxes; and we do here by declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference'marked thereon.

' Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a plan view of our invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, without saw, clamps, or saw-guides. Fig. 3 isa front view of guide. Fig. 4 is a front view of clamp. Fig. 5 is a side View of saw with guides, clamps, and rod.

.- This invention has relation to miter-boxes;

and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of devices for holding the saw in position, adjusting it to the proper angle, and securing the board while it is being cut.

In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates this invention, A represents a rectangular frame having a graduated scale of degrees of a circle at B. 0 represents a bed, upon which is placed the board to be m'itered. The board is held secure against a wall, D, by means of adjustable flanged slides E, through which pass thumb-screws E into the bed U.

G designates the saw, clamped and held at both ends by means of clamps g, which are opened and closed by screws 9 and are formed with an eye, each marked g so as to slide to and fro along a horizontal rod, 9 The latter is furnished with slotted guides H, through which the saw passes, and which are furnished with loops h projecting from each edge. Any ordinary crosscut-saw may be used with my improved miter-box, by clamping it near the ends in the manner described.
