Wituems:
y: a W 5 AMVffHOTU-LIYHUGRAPHIG 00. N. Y (USBURIVES PROCESS) UNITED STATES JOHN J. STREETER, OF HINSDALE, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-DRYING HOUSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,499, dated May 7,1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Dry-House, invented by JOHN J. STREETER, of Hinsdale, in the county of Cheshire and State of New Hampshire.
This invention relates to the process of drying tobacco and other articles; and consists in the provision made for suspending the article to be dried, and in the use of metallic supports, connected with the building-frame, arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top or plan view. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of Fig. 1, taken on the line as as. Fig. 3 is a detail, showing the mode of securing the suspending-rods to the frame. Fig. 4. shows the manner of forming the suspension-wires for supporting the articles to be dried upon the rods.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a drying-frame of wood, of any desired size and proportions, containing one or more drying-floors or stories, and made in any substantial or suitable manner, but which may be made very light, as the parts are supported by any metallic supporting-rods. In this example of my invention I show two drying-floors, two opposite timbers of each of which floors are provided with vertical pins 13, to which are attached the suspending-rods O, by coiling the ends of the rods around the pins, as shown in the drawing. These rods are placed at :proper distances apart, and are arranged at right angles with each other, so that they support the frame in each direction, as seen in Fig. 1. D represents rods or wires, which may be placed, as seen in the drawing, over the suspending-rods of each floor for supporting the frame; but I do not confine myself to the use of these transverse rods. E represents the article to be dried. The manner of supporting it is seen in the drawing. F is the supporting-wire, which is turned around the suspending-rod C, as seen at G, and it is then bent up over the rod, as seen at H, thus inclosing the article and holding it securely to the rod.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The suspension-wire H, in combination with the suspending-rods C, as and for the purposes described.
2. A dry-house. constructed with floors of metallic suspending-rods, with the rods arranged at right angles, as shown and described.
JOHN J. STREETER.
