WILLIAM K. ALTHER, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
WATER-WINGS.
Application filed August 14, 1917.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that /VILLIAM K. ALTHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water- IVings and he does hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in waterwings, designed for attachment to the body of a person to buoy same while learning to swim and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure l is a View in elevation showing the device as applied to the body of a person.
Fig. 2 is a side view, and
Fig. 8 is a sectional view through one of the inflated members and the pocket containing the same.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates bands, there being three Specification of Letters Patent.
7 Patented Apr. 9, 1918.
Serial No. 186,195.
shown in the drawings, and adapted to stirby buckling. The portions of the bands which come against the back of the wearer are provided with sliding buckles B, afford ing means for adaptingthe bands to different sized bodies. Said bands have pockets C fastened transversely thereto and each adapted to contain an inflated bag I), forming means for buoying the said person. There are two of said bags, arranged as shown, and each has an opening E with corresponding ends, through which access may be had for the purpose of inflating the bags.
In applying the device, the bands are strapped about the body underneath the arms and the hips, with the pockets positioned preferably as shown in the draw ings, so that when the person equipped with the device is in the water, two bags will float upon the surface of the water and tend to support said person while swimming or in the act oflearning to swim.
What I claim to be new is:
Water wings comprising inflatable bags and coverings therefor, each having an open end, body bands fastened to the coverings,
one centrally therefor, the others on either side of the point of affixation of the central band, the bands being adapted to hold the bags in fixed position. I
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM K. ALTHER. Witnesses:
HENRY H. SCHWAEKE, HENRY BLANC.
