ADVERTISING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 13. 1917.
1 75 6i 59 Patented Mar. 19, 1918.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918,
Application filed October 13, 1917. Serial No. 196,476.
To all whom it may concern;-
, Be it known that I, Vmcnnzo D1 Memo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greensburg, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an advertising device, and has for an object to provide a talking apparatus which consists of a speakin figure that will make recitati'ons and a ord amusement thereby, and
like-wise advertise different articles,
Another object of the present invention is a provision of a talking device which con sists of the representation of a human figure by a frame construction and the provision of a housing for phonograph for reproducin the recitation of speech.
he principal object of the invention is the employment of a talking device employing a human figure with a phonograph housed in the body thereof, and sulta le mechanism arranged in operative connection therewith to actuate the lips of the figure in imitation of a person talking.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists inthe construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claims, wherein:-
Figure l is-a vertical sectional view of an advertising device constructed in accordance with the resent invention and illustrating the p onograph and associated mechanism in elevation.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the cam surface of a turn table.
In the drawings a support 4 holds a body portion 5 of a phonograph of ordinary construction which has at the rear thereof a winding key 6 accessible from the exterior of the figure. Situated in the figure is an amplifier 7 supported by suitable brackets 8, while a stylus 9 and a sound box 10 are carried at the outer end of a tone arm 11. The stylus 9 of the sound box 10 contacts in the usual manner with a disk record 12. A. turn table 13 upon which the disk record 12 rests has connected thereto a cam 14.
This turn table 13 is spaced from the body portion 5 of the phonograph by a connecting rod 15. Said s ace' permittin amplitude of? movement or te 13 an prevents eontacting with the surface of the body portion 5.
The nether lip 17 of the figure consists of a section pivoted to the inner frame of the figure by a bolt 18, while a rod 19 is employed to connect at its upper end with the terminus of the nether lip 17. At its lower end the rod is provided with an extended portion 20 formlng a finger over which the cam 14 rides. A guide 21 attached to the front wall of the figure embraces the rod 19.
and limits the movement of a spring 22 coiled about the rod, while a stop 23 made integral with the rod limits the upward movement of the spring, the latter normally holding the finger 20 1n contact with the cam-14.
In the neck portion of the figure elastic material 24 is employed to enable the nether lip 17 to move with a greater de cc of flexib1 ity, while in the side of t e figure a hin edly mounted door 25 is constructed to one lo a person to have access to the stylus and records when it is desired to change the same.
While I have shown and described one preferred form of my invention by way of illustration I wish it to be understood that I do not limit or confine myself to the recise details of construction herein descrl ed and delineated, as modifications and variations ma be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is 1. An advertising device comprising a housing formed as the representation of a human figure, the lower jaw portion of said figure being pivoted, a sound reproducing device disposed within said fi re and including a rotatable horizontal platform, a cam on'said platform, a rod pivotally connected with said pivoted jaw, and a spring holding said rod in engagement with said cam.
2. An advertising device comprising a housing formed as the representation of a human figure, the lower aw of the figure being pivoted, a sound reproducing device disposed within said figure and including a rotatable horizontal platform, a guide bracket within said figure, a rod pivotally connected at its upper ends with said pivoted jaw and having its lower end slidable through said bracket, a lateral extension on the extreme lower end of said rod, a cam depending from the lower surface of said platform and engaging the extension on said rod, and a spring holding said rod with said extension in engagement with said cam.
3. An advertising device comprising a housing formed as the representation of a human figure, the lower jaw of the figure being pivoted, a sound reproducing device disposed within said housing and including a rotatable horizontal latform, a cam depending from the lower side of said platform, a guide bracket within said figure adjacent the platform, a rod vertically slidable through said bracket and havin its upper end pivotally connected with said jaw and its lower end formed with a lateral extension, a collar on said rod above said bracket, and a spring abutting against said collar and said bracket for holding-the extension on said rod in engagement with said camp In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
