To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERIK J. JANsnN, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Bellaire, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented. certain new and useful ID'LPIOVQIIIGIltH in 'Mirroscopes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mirrosoopes and. more particularly to a reflecting device adapted to be arranged outside of a build ing whrureby a person within the building may observe objects on. the street in either direction by simply glancing in one of the mirrors carried by the device.
lhe principal object of the invention is to provide a pair of refiectin g i'nirrors disposed at an angle to each other and pivotall y mounted upon a. bracket secured to the window frame whereby the mirrors may be readily adjusted to any desired angle.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character adapted for use on automol'iiles whereby the driver may observe person or objects at opposite sides of the automobile; the mirrors being pivotally mounted whereby the operator may observe objects approaching the intersection of streets or railways before turning a corner.
A further object oi this invention is the provision of inirroscop% which consist. of
comparatively few parts and are simple in constmmtion. but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices ol thi character are ordii'iarily subjeeted.

Referring to the drawing. wherein. is illustrated the preferred. form of my invention, and in which like numerals ol" refer-- ence indicate corresponding parts throughoutthe several views, the device is provided with two mirrors 1. and 2 mounted in a framework of substantially triangular con struction. The frame is preferably formed from sheet metal and comprises the rectangular frame ll'lUIl'llJGl' 3 and a similar frame member 4 joined together at one of their edges by a triangular brace 5 having its vertex curved as shown by Fig. :3 of the drawing and its side flanges (i and 7 fastened to the edge 8 of each frame member 3 and 4. The opposite vertical edges of the frame members 25 and 4 are eonnmtcd at their upper and lower ends by the cross bars .l arranged one above the other at the upper and lower edges of the frames 3 and 4;. Th mirrors 1 and 2 are thereb disposed at an angle to each other at substantially (it) degrees. A cylindrimil bearing 10 is arranged directly above the V-shaped piece 5 and meeives the pintle .ll vertically extending from a bracket arm 12 which is integrall formed. with a. depending flange 13 having openings for the reception of faslenin screws whereby the bracket may be fastened to the window frame. Within the vertex of the inner faces of each of the frame i'nenrbers 3 and a is a reinforcing strip 14: fastened to the inner walls of the frame members 3 and 4 for eli'eetively bracing the same.
As shown by Fig. 4 of the (.lrawing, each frame i'i'ieniber is formed from a sheet of material having a vertical [lat rear wall. 15 and the top and lower edges of the frame .n'iemhers are formed by lateral extensions 1 of the rear wail '15 which in turn, is bent dow wardly at the front and again inwardly to provide the retaining flange 17 which engages the front surfaces of each. mirror.
ln operating the device it is merely necessary to attach the flange 13 to a convenient part oflhe window frame whereby the device will be extended out over the sidewalk or thoroughfare, the extension arm 12 being of any desirable length.
The mirror may be then swung on the pinlle 11 until it is adjusted. to the proper aniljle fo observing the objects as they pass up and down the thoroughfare.
On an automobile the bracket is mounted at a coi'ivenient point on. the body of the machine within convenient reach of the driver whereby he may adjust the mirror to the angle desired to observe, through the medium of one of the reflecting surfaces, objects .at one side and at the rear of the automobile or adjust the other reflecting surface to observe olijeets at the other side of the automobile.
From the foregoing it will he observed that a very simple and durahle n'iirroscope has been provided, the details of whieh embody the preferred form. I desire it to be understood however, that slight changes in. the minor details of eonstrllotion may be made without de]' artiug from the spirit of the invention or the scope ol the claim hereunto appended.
I claim:
