To all whom t may concern:

Bc it known that l, Trioilxs P. Anni-zoen, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Smokers Devices, of which the following is a specili cation.

My invention relates to smokers articles and its object is to combine in one device as many as possible of the implements needed by a cigar smoker.

Wy invention consists in the combination of parts and in the details of construction and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed.

As 1 prefer to construct myvinvention there is a base 1 having a raised rim 2, so that it forms an ash tray; and in the center of this base is secured an upright tube 3, having down next to the base a clipping outlet l, and immediately above this outlet Ll, a circular aperture 5 to receive the end of a cigar to be clipped. There is a chute 6 in the interior of the lower part of the tube 3 extending entirely thereacross and inclining upward from the bottom of the outlet e to a point opposite to and slightly above the upper edge of the aperture 5. A disk-shaped spring support 7 extends entirely across the interior of the tube immediately above the upper edge of the aperture 5, except that it has a small segmental slot 8 (Fig. 3) extending equidistant from both sides of the center line of the aperture 5. At the opposite side this spring support 7 rests upon the upper end of the chute 6, and in addition, this spring support 7 is preferably soldered to the interior of the tube 3.

The cutter 9 has its upper part tubular and of exterior diameter to lit snugly'but slidingly in the interior of the upper part of the tube 3. and has a downward extension 10 through the segmental slot S of the spring support 7, the lower end of which extension 10 has a segmental recess 1l, the edge 12 of which is beveled inside so as to be sharp. At opposite sides next to this lower end this extension 10` has laterally projecting lugs 13 which lie below 'the spring support 7 and extend laterally past the respective ends of the segmental slot 8. Fixed to the upper end of the cutter 9 is a U-shaped match-box holder 14 with upwardly projected lugs 15 at the opposite sides of its bottom, said lugs l5 preferably having their upper ends 16 turn-ed in slightly across the box holder, the edges 17 of the lugs being slightly tapered. The holder thus admits an ordinary box of safety matches readily between the upright sides and with the lower end of its cover embracing the lugs 15, whiln the lower end of the box itself engages with the inturned upper ends 16 and is pushed slightly out of its cover in a well known manner. Confined between the spring support 7 below and the bottom of the box holder above, is a suitable helical spring 18 which normally holds the cutter 9 and the box holder thereon up as far as the laterally extending ears 13 will permit them to go.

l/Vhen the end of a cigar is inserted in the aperture 5 and the box holder and cutter depressed against the yielding pressure of the spring 1S, the cutting edge 12 clips ofi' the end of the cigar which falls against the chute 6 and rolls into the ash-tray base 1. Then when the pressure is removed the spring 18 returns the parts to their normal position for the next operation.

The spring 18 is strong enough to hold the box holder 14 up with sufficient firmness to permit matches to be drawn from the box holder therein and readily ignited by striking them against the box in the ordinaryT manner; but at the same time, the spring is not so strong as to make ditlicult the depression of the parts in clipping a cigar.

1t will thus be seen that my invention combines in one self-contained device a holder for the matches as convenient and eective as any ordinary holder of that character, together with a clipper for the cigar and a tray to catch the clippings, as well as for catching cigar ashes or for holding a lighted cigar where it will do no damage to articles of furniture.

l/Vhile combining all of these functions in a single device, the parts are few and readily assembled so that the device is little more expensive than an ordinary match-box holder.

Having fully described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. in combination, a base, an upright tube fixed on said base with anl aperture in its side, a disk-shaped spring,` support fixed across said tube near the upper side of said aperture and having' a segmental slot adjacent to said aperture, a cutter comprising an upper tubular part and spring-confining means fixed across the top of said tubular part, said cuttersliding inside the tube that is fixed on the base, and having a downward extension through said segmental slot in said springv support with a sharpened lower edge adapted to slide across said aperture when said holder and cutter are depressed, and a spring' confined between said Vspring support'and the means fixed across the top ot said tubular part.

2. In combination, a base, an upright tube xed on said base with an aperture in its side7 a disk-shaped spring support fixed across said tube near the upper side of said Vaperture and havingV a segmentalslot adjacent to said aperture, a cutter comprising an upper tubular part and spring-confining means fixed across the top of said tubular part, said cutter sliding inside the tube that is fixed onthe base, and having a downward extension through said segmental slot in said spring support with a sharpened lower edge adapted to slide across said aperture when said holder and cutter are depressed, a spring' confined between said spring` support and the means fixed across the top of said tubular part, and a lug' extendingl laterally from said downward extension past the end of said segmental slot and below said spring' support.'

3. ln combination, a base, an upright tube xed on said base with a clipping outlet in its side down next to said base, and an aperture in said side above said clipping` outlet, a chute inside said tube inclined downward Copies thereacross to the bottom of said clipping outlet, a disk-shaped spring support fixed across said tube near the upper side of said aperture, supported by said chute, and having a segmental slot adjacent to said aperture, a cutter comprising' an upper tubular part, and springconfining' means fixed across the top of said tubular part, said cutter sliding inside the tube that is fixed on the base, and having` a'downward extension through said segmental slot in said spring support with a sharpened lowe1 edge adapted to slide across said aperture when said holder and cutter are depressed, and a spring confined between said spring support and the means fixed across the top of said tubular part. f

In combination, abase, an upright tube xed on said base with a clipping' outlet in its side down next to said base, and an aperture in said side above said clipping outlet, a chute inside said tube inclined down ward thereacross to the bottom of said clipping` outlet, a disk-shaped spring support fixed across said tube near the upper side of said aperture, supported by said chute, and having a segmental slot adjacent to said aperture, a cutter comprising an upper tubular part and spring-confining means ixed across the top of said tubular part, and sliding inside thetube that is fixed onthe base, and havinga downward extension through said segmental slot in said spring support with a sharpened lower edge adapted to slide across said aperture when said holder` and cutter are depressed, a spring confined between said spring support and the means fixed across the top of said tubular part, and a lue` extending` laterally from said downward extension past the end of said segmental slot and below said spring' support.
