GLOVE.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 1918.
Application led September 11, 1917. Serial No. 190,735.
To all whom may concern Be it known that I, HARRY A. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Glove, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to avoid damaging the border 0r finished facing about the wrist openings of gloves; to secure the facing about said wrist openings wit-h an extensible means for fastening the edge of the facing to the glove; and to impart a neat and workinanlike appearance to a glove having the binding facing for the wrist opening.
Drawings.
the edge and at the inner side of the glove, a binding or facing strip of material. The
material has or has not resembled in color and texture the body of the glove. The stitching employed for securing the facing or binding material rendered the material non-extensible. This has resulted in straining the glove structure in the endeavor to close the glove until the stitching has broken and the ends separated sulficiently to leave a gap where the material has been parted. The raw edge of the binding when not secured produces an unfinished appearance to the glove.
Gloves when constructed in accordance with the present invention are provided with a binding strip 9, the outer edge of which is held by the usual line of stitching 10. The inner edge of the strip 9 is secured to the body 11 of the glove by a row of hemstitching 12. The hemstitching provides a series of openings 13 formed by overcast stitches at the sides thereof in line with the direction of the stitching. This form of stitching while securing the raw edge of the binding strip 9 yields to the strain of the material parallel with the line of stitching and thus avoids the breaking away of the stitching and consequent loosening of the edge of the binding strip 9.
