GREASING DEVICE.
Application filed November 6, 1916.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT T. JnNsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norma, in the county of Renville, State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Greasing Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a pan greasing device, and has particular reference to devices of that type in which a fountain container feeds a liquid to the greasing device.
The object of my invention is to Provide a competent greasing device and container in which the drippings from'the end of the greasing element are returned to the container, so that there is no waste, and furthermore, so that the drippings are not scattered to soil the articles from which the grease is liable to fall. To this end, my invention contemplates the provision of two spouts one within the other, the inner constituting the delivery spout and the other constituting a drip catching element, being constructed to convey the drippings back into the container, and the arrangement being such that material from the inside of the container will not flow out of the return spout when the vessel or container is tipped.
l'Vith the above and other objects which will hereinafter appear in view, my invention will now be fully set forth and described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the body of the container which is adapted to contain a suitable liquid material for greasing cooking pans, and having the handle 2, and a suitable removable cover 3. Extending from the top 3 of the receptacle 1 at a point near one edge is provided a spout 4 which extends well down into the receptacle. A removable cap 6 closes thefree end of the spout 4, and is perforated as at 7 to feed the liquid there'- through. The cover 6 is provided with an Specification of Letters Patent.

annular upstanding flange which constitutes a holder for a brush or swab 8, which takes up the grease which is fed through the openings 7, so that application. of the brush to a pan surface will freely grease the latter. Surrounding the spout 4 is a second spout 9, said spout being continued through the wall of the top in an extension 10 which is carried to a point adjacent the opposite side of the container so that when the latter is tipped, the material in the container will flow around the extension 10, but will not flow through the open end 11 thereof. In the use of the can it should not be filled to such extent that, when the can is tipped to pour the liquid from the spout 4, the liquid will assume a level above the inner end of the extension 10. Outside of the container, the spout 9 is substantially circular in cross section. and has its inner periphery contiguous at all points to the upper side of the spout 4 so that the major portion of the opening through the spout 9 rests below the spout 4, the end of the latter extending a very short distance beyond the outer end of the spout 9, but in position to permit th drippings from the spout 4 to be caught in the opening of the spout 9 when the container is placed in vertical position. Inside of the container, the extension 10 is shaped to curve around the mouth 5 at the spout 4., best seen in Fig. 2, so that the mouth is unobstructed to the free flow of the grease thereto, this formation of the extension 10, however also providing a return flow for any drippings which may be caught from the end of the spout 4. The spouts 4 and 9 may be formed as a unit in the manufacture of the container, and insorted through an opening in the cover of the latter, being therein fixed in any desired manner.
The operation of my improved device is obvious from the foregoing description, but it should be noted that the device may be effectually used when practically full of liquid greasing material, and that when the device is tipped in an obvious manner to grease a pan, the liquid will flow around the extension 10 without passing therethrough, and flows freely into the spout 4 to saturate the brush 8. During the momentary period in tilting the can to greasing position when the level of the liquid is above the inner end of the downwardly inclined extension 10, flow of liquid through the extension 10 is prevented by the partial vacuum created by the tendency to such How, and Whatever liquid may enter the eX- tension remains lodged therein due to release of pressure of the main body of liquid upon completion of the tilting movement.
What I claim as my invention is A fountain greasing device, comprising in combination, a container, an incline spout entered into the Wall of said container and terminating near its top, a greasing element mounted upon the end of said spout, and adapted to be fed therethrough, a second spout surrounding the feed spout outside of said Wall and having a continuingextension passing through said Wall and ending in a portion which extends to a point near the opposite side of the can so that the contents of the can will flow away therefrom when the can is tipped, said portion being of such restricted diameter as to prevent flow of fluid therethrough upon tilting the container, due to partial vacuum created by such tendency of flow.
