IMPROVEMENT IN SPIKEDRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,325, dated April 2, 1872.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER C. PARKINsoN, of Marquette, in the county of Marquette and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improve-d Spike-Bar; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact de. scription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, referencebeinghad to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents 'a perspective view of my improved spike-bar. Fig. 2 is a detail transverse section of the same through the claws.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The principle of my invention consists in lifting the spike up in a perpendicular line by shaping the curved end ot' the bar, so as to slide and always continue the shifting fulcrum directly under the head of the spike.
I will now describe all that isnecessary to a full understanding of my invention, and then clearly point it out in the claim. a
A in the drawing represents the improved spike-bar. Its lower end is curved forward to form the liftingjaws a. a., between which a slot, b, is left, as shown, for admitting the body of the spike. best leverage is thus obtained with the exertion of but little power.
I am aware of the existence of the patents of B. B. Wood and Gr. H. Beard, and do not lay claim to anything described by them.
Having thus described my invention, l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, the withindescribed spike-extractor A with lifting jaws a a, beveled on their outer sides, and provided with cavities c c, as shown in the accompanying drawing.
