Be it known that LAnTrrUR ZIMTBAUM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful ImyiirovementsV in Tindow-Sill Provision-Boxcs, of which the following is a specification.

The invention pertains to a novel construction of provision box toibe mounted on a window-sill and accessible to the occupant of the room upon the raising or opening of the lower sash of the window.

The essential features of novelty present in the box reside in its shape and in its man.- ner of mounting so that the box may be conveniently employed and be of commodious nature without interfering unduly with the view from the window or the light entering the room or egress from or ingress to the room through the window.

The box will oreferably be made of sheet metal and of su icient height to contain two or more shelves, and the box has an angular front containing a door which may be opened and closed at will, a curved outer wall, and an angular inner side wall adapted to engage the brick or stone wall of the building and a portion of the outer windowsill and closely fitting the angle of the said wall adjacent to the window-frame. The box engages the wall of the house and the window-sill and projects outwardly beyond the window-sill and may be conveniently supported in place by an iron strap fastened at one end to the upper portion of the box and at the other end to the windowframe. The box may also be secured by an inner concealed cleat through which screws or the like may be passed and fastened into the windo-w-frame from the inner side of the box. The box is of special shape in crosssection and of considerable capacity, and the door of the box is hinged at its outer edge and at its inner edge, which is close to the window, may be provided with a latch whereby the door may be fastened in closed position. The door stands at an angle to the window and when swung to its open position permits of ready access to any portion of the box.

The invention will be fully understood from the detailed description hereinafter presented, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

ln the drawings 10 vdesignates a portion of the wall of the building, 11 the main window-sill, 12 the customary framing for the window-sashes, not shown, and 13 a customary base or sill secured upon the base or sill 11 and extending transversely of the side portions of the window-frame 12.

The provision box is numbered, as a Whole, 14: and comprises a vertical convexly curved outer wall or side 15, an angular side 16 andl an inner wall composed of the iiat section 17 adapted to lie against the outer' surface of the wall 1 0, a section 18 adapted to lie against the side edge of the wall 10 land being at right angles to the section 17, and a section 19 adapted to lie against the outer face of the window frame 12, all asclearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The Icurved outer wall 15 at one edge joins the inner wall section 17 and at its other edge joins what may be termed the front angular side 16 of the box, and said wall 15 comprises con siderably more than a quarter circle and preferably about three-eighths of a circle so that a considerable portion of the body of the receptacle lies at the side of the window, with the angular side 16 inclining inwardly toward the outer vertical side portion of the window, whereby the box becomes accessible without unduly obstructing the passage of light into the room. The angular side 16 of the box is provided with an opening 20 and a door 21 therefor, said door at its outer vertical edge being hinged, as at 22, to the angular side 16 of the box, and at its other vertical edge being provided Y makes it entirely convenient, when the door is opened, for the occupant of a room to reach any part of the box 14 either for the purpose of placing articles therein or removing provisions therefrom, and this is one of the desirablepurposes accomplished with the use of my invention. The curved wall 14 of the box permits the box to be of considerable cubical capacity and at the same time creates an interior structure which can be readily reached by the user of the box without undue stretching or strain. The inner wall of the box composed of the sections 17, 18, 19, snugly fit against the outer face and side portions of the wall 10 and Y against the outer face of the window-frame,

and this aids in securing the box in position in a compact manner and without undue fastening devices. In the present instance I secure the box in position by means of an outer strap 26 and an inner cleat 27, the strap 26 being riveted at its outer end to the outer vertical side of the box, thence extending inwardly on the top 28 of the box and thence bent vertically, as at 29, and secured to the window framing 12. The cleat 27 is at the inner side of the section 19 of the inner wall of the box and it may be fastened by screws 30 to the Window framing 12.

The bottom 31 of the box rests directly upon the window-sill 11, as shown in Fig. 8.

The box as a Whole has been constructed with the View of securing increased convenience and capacity in boxes of the character to which the invention relates, and the box may also be very conveniently and comparatively inexpensively constructed, so that all having a need for boxes of this kind,

may be supplied with the same at reasonable cost. The box is durable, its major portion is removed from the view of the window, and the door is readily accessible from the window.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

' 1. A vertical window-sill provision-box comprising a. top, bottom, curved outer side defining a width greater than a quartercircle, an Vinner wall adapted to extend along the outer face of the wall of the house, the side face of said wall at the window and the window framing, and a front wall inclining from the outer edge of the said outer wall of the box inwardly toward the side portion of the window and provided with a hinged door, said casing being adapted at one portion to rest upon the winden' sill and to receive means for securing the box in vertical position.

2. A vertical window-sill provisionebox comprising a top, a bottom, an outer side, an inner angular wall comprising three sections adapted respectively to extend along the outer face of the wall of the house, the side face of said wall at the window and the window framing, and a front inelininginwardly from said outer side toward the side of the window and joined to said inner wall and provided with a door hinged at its outer edge, said casing being adapted at one portion to rest upon the window-sill.

3. A vertical windowsill provision-box comprising a top, a bottom, an outer side extending laterally beyond both edges of the vertical side of the window, an inner angular side adapted to the side wall of the house and in part to rest upon the windowsill, and a front inclining from the outer edge of said outer side iinv'ardly toward the side portion of the window and provided with a hinged door.
