To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Anorir PILGER, a sub ject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Marshwood, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in MatchBoxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in combined match dispensers and cigar clippers and has as its principal object the'provision of a receptacle in which matches may be contained in bulk andprovided with arrangements for the delivery of one or more, as maybe desired, the delivery means being combined with other means adapted to clip the end of a cigar butt.

A further object is to provide with such apparatus a receptacle in which cigars or the like may be stored and a still further object is to provide such devices in attractive forms suitable for display on counters of cigar stores, or other like public places.

These and similar objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of the specification and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view showing the apparatus in its preferred form Fig. 2 is a front side elevatlon of the same, parts being broken away in order to show the interior.

The preferred form of the device includes a rectangular structure having longitudlnal side elements 10 and 11, connected by a base plate 12 and end elements 13 and 14. A cover 15 extends over the receptacle thus forming a hollow rectangular box. A partition plate 16 extends transversely from top to bottom, parallel with the end elements 13 and 14 formin a compartment 18 in the lower portion of which is a removable drawer 19, the same being directly under a passage 21, formed between the side plate 11 and another vertical partition 20, the

drawer being adapted to receive and contain the clippings from the end ofa cigar, entered through the conical guide opening 22, formed through the cover of the box, adjacent to one end thereof and along one of its side edges.

Near the opposite endis a push button 25, the same being guided as it extends downwardly through the cover and has attached at its lower end, a stem or spindle 26, pass ing through fixed guides 27, attached rigidly to the side plate 11 and terminating below the lower guide in an enlarged beveled head 28, "as can best be seen in Fig. 3.

A co led spring 29 exerts pressure between the lower guide 27 and a collar 30 rigidly engaged upon the spindle, tending to hold the push button in a raised position, which is limited by the location of the collar, adapted to make contact with the upper guide when in a normal raised condition.

Also attached to the spindle 26, is the end 32 of a bell-crank lever, fulcrumed at 33 and containing a slot 84 through which the pin 35, set in the spindle, operates, thereby conveying motion to the lever, the other end 37 of which is engaged with the bent end 38 of a link 39 guided in bearings 40 and passing through the partition plate 16, where its outer end is pivotally comiected with a shear or knife blade 42, pivoted at 43 to the inwardly projected end of the cigar re ceiver 22. Thus when the spring 29 is in a normal position the knife is removed from the opening of the interior of the clipper so as to permit a cigar to enter. At the same time the bar 45 having guides 46, is pressed toward the head 28 by means of the coiled spring 48, surrounding a stem 49 slidable in an elongated bearing 50 and having at its outer end a collar 51 engaged with which is a pressure plate 52 made of some elastic materials as rubber, the same projecting through the wall 53 into the match compartment 54. In this compartment the matches 55 are disposed upon angular flooring 56 terminating in a down turned end 57, separated from continuations of the partition 53 by such a distance as to permit of a single row of matches to enter thfirebetween, forming an elongated flattened tu e.

The lower end of this tube is provided with a cover plate 58 hinged at 60 and having a lug 61 extending vertically above, against which the detent 62 is adapted to ranged With chambers 7 O'an'd 72 adapted to contain cigars and cigarettes, as shoivn in Fig. A. From the foregoing description it will be obvious that upon pressure of the knob 25, one or more of the matches will be liberated and brought into position where they are readily accessible, coincidentally with clipping the end of the cigar.
