subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tooth-Brushes, of

which the followingis a specification.

Thi invention relates to a tooth brush and has as its principal object topro'vide such a device which is absolutely sanitary; a further object of the invention is to provide such a device which is simple of construction and comparatively cheap to manufacture and easyto handle; a still further object is to provide a tooth brush adapted for cleaning the teeth both sidewise, in the customary manner, and up and down.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts more specifically described hereinafter and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which: I

The same part is designated by the same reference character throughout the several views.

Referring more particularly to the draw-- formed on one end thereof and in alinement therewith, and another similar gripping member 10 formed on its other end,

at right angles thereto.i The first one serves for the -brushing of the teeth along the rows thereof, from one side of the mouth to the other, in the customary manner, and the second one for brushing them up and down, from the upper gum to the lower one and vice-versa.

The gripping members 9 and 10 are curved so as to conform substantially to the curvature of the ums. They have upwardly converging sides 11 turned at right angles at either extremity, so as to form a box-like structure, one end 12- of which is flush with the sides and the other end 13 is .partly cut away.

Fig. 2 shows the holder with brush members 14 inserted into the gripping members 9 and 10. The brush members are curved similarly to the gripping members and fit tightly into same, being somewhat larger and compressed when inserted. They are made of a resilient, porous material, preferably felt and saturated by a special process' with a composition which has a disinfecting and deodorizing property. The

process of impregnation is uch as to make it lasting.

The brush members 14 are shoved into Patented Dec. d, 191% the gripping members 9 and 10 at the ends each brush member 14 to protect it from contact with the fingers or other foreign substance during the process of inserting them into the holder. When they are inserted, the cap 16 may easily be removed in an obvious way.

All inside edges and corners of the gripping members are rounded so as to prevent 1 1 the collection of dust or other foreign matter there and to allow the holder to be easily cleaned. This is one of the important sani- $9.1]? features of my tooth brush.

t will be obvious from the foregoing that my invention contemplates the use of a new brush member for each cleaning of the teeth,

which is the most hygienic' procedure and, as

the felt pads can be made very cheap, it is also commercially possible. I

][n the modified form of my device, shown in Figs. (Sand 7, the gripping members 9 and 10 and the brush member 14 are straight instead of curved, as some persons with an abnormal curvature of gums may prefer this form of the brush. Otherwise the construction is the same as that of the brush shown in Figs. 1 to 5.

It is also obvious that I may construct a holder with only one of the two gripping members 9 and 10 and may make other alterations'or modifications, without departing from the principles of my invention, laid down in the claim hereunto appended.

I claim: v

In a tooth brush, a holder formed of one piece of material, having a flat handle portion, a box-like structure on either end of said handle-portion, formed by upturned portions of said material, one of said boxlike tructures being in longitudinal alinement with said handle portion and the other of said box-like structures at right angles thereto, both being in the same horizontal plane, said box-like structures being closed at one end entirely and at the other end partially by turned-in portions of aid material, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
