' Specification 0! Letters Patent. 1 Patnted Nov. 20, 1917.
Application filed October 21, 1916. Serial no. 27,000.
' To all whom itmai concern:
Be it lknown'that I, ALMON D. HEATH, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Discharge Devices for Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in discharge devices for pumps, and es pecially ,isintcnded for-use in connection with that class ofj p-umps ordinarily used for dispensing. liquid fuel and lubricants. The object of the invention is to provide a screen for the discharge opening of the pump that may be readily removed and replaced. as'occasion may require, and a further object is to combineth e screen and out let valve so; they maybe together removable for repmrfor cleansing. Y
The objects of the invention are accom plished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and referring now to the characters of reference marked thereupon i A is the chambered head oif a dispensing; pump of well-known construction, and (13) is a dome, threaded at its lower end and fitting into the head (A) so that the charm i: blrr {(1) of the head "has communication with thechamber' (D) of the dome. A valve-seat (E) is removably secured in the lower part of the dome and arvalve rests thereon. A guide- (G) in the l meis provided for th ostcmifll) of vthe valveafl'd another guide (J) integral withthe casting that forms the valve-seat is also provided for the valve-stem.
To the lower end ofthe dome is secured a cup-shaped screen (K) that extends into the chamber (G) of thehead (A). The upper marginal cdgc of the screen hassoldcred connection with an annular ring (L) that is secured directly to the adjacent bottom face of the dome by meansiof screws (M).,- i. v
The upper end of the "dome has a ipe (N) connected therewith which may lead to any suitable point of discharge;
The intention of the invention is that the flow of liquid, from the chamber (C) of the pump will pass through the screen and valve and continue through the dome and discharge pipe, and at any time the screen or valve becomes fouled or ineflective in operation, the screen and valve may both be removed readily and examined, repaired and replaced. The'present construction fa.- cilitates the operations in elfecting the'occasional repairs, and cleansing that become necessary tothe efiicient working of the apparatus, The dome contains and has attached thereto, the valve and the screen, and by removing the dome the valve and screen are carried with it so they may be very readily disassembled, or reassembled and replaced. The facility thus afiorded renders the invention useful because of the accessibility, of the parts when repair or cleansing become necessary.
What I claim is: f
1. In combination with a chambered pump-head having an opening therein a chambered "dome having connection w1th the pump-head coincident with the opening, a valve-seat 'removablyfitted within the dome, a valve seated thereon, and a screen removably attached to and covering the lower end of the dome beneath the valve therein. 2. In apparatus of the class described, a chambered pump-head having an opening therein, a chambered dome secured to the head and covering the opening therein, and a screen having removable connection with the lower end' of the dome, extending into the chamber of the pump-head, and being adapted to be removed with the dome from the pump-head. I
3. In apparatus of' the class described, a chambered pump-head having an opening therein, a chambered dome in removable connection with the pump-head coincident with the opening therein, a removable valve seat fitted, within the dome, a, valve seated thereon, and a. screen extending into the secured to the lowercud of the dome chamber of thc pump-head and I'cmoval;l
i-oo
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature,
.in presence of two witnesses.
