Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 11, 1916. Serial No. 130,803.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mullan, in the county of Shoshone and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Seals, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle closures.
The object of the present invention is to provide a means for effectually sealing the mouth of a bottle.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for effectually sealing the mouth of a bottle, in a manner to prevent the opening thereof without destroying the seal, thereby preventing the refilling and resealing of the bottle without detection.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a bottle seal of simple construction, attractive appearance and which may be manufactured at a minimum cost.
With the above objects in view the invention consists of the following novel combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings; in which Figure l is a perspective view of upper portion of a bottle having the p eyed seal applied'thereto;
Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view; and
Fig. l is a detailed perspective view of the disk carrying the depending arms.
Referring to the drawings in detail like characters of reference denote corresponding parts. In the practical construction of the invention, as illustrated, the bottle is shown at l, and may be of any desired size or configuration. The bottle is provided with the usual neck 2 which includes the circular boss or enlaigement 3. Longitudinal openings lare formed in the opposite sides of the neck, and are provided with serrations 5, for a purpose presently apparent.
The bottle may be provided with the usual cork or other stopper 6, and over this stopper is fitted a disk 7, provided with depending oppositely arranged arms 8. These arms 8 are preferably formed integral with the disk 7 and are adapted to enter the openings 4, as illustrated. The arms are formed with inwardly projecting spring tongues 9 adapted to engage the serrations the 5, by means of which they are locked within the openings. The serrated openings 5 may be forms a in various ways, for example the openings may be form d by means of a cork which may be afterward destroyed or removed, or the outer wall 10 of the openings may be separately formed and used or otherwise secured to the bottle neck, so that it will in efiect be an integral portion thereof. The neck of the bottle is further provided with an angular flange 11 by means of which the shoulder or ledge 12 is provided, which will materially aid in inserting the arms 8 in the openings, it bein only necessary to press the arms inward upon the ledge 12 and against the flange 11 and turn until the ends of the arms are above the openings f when they may be readily positioned within the said openings.
It will be seen by reference to the drawings that after the cork or stopper is insorted within the bottle neck and the arms I positioned within the openings 4iit will be impossible to remove the stopper without destroying the arms of the disk, and therefore it will be impossible to open the bottle without detection.
Various changes in the form and proportion of the invention may be made as will properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what I desire to claim, is;
In combination, a bottle having a neck provided with oppositely disposed longitudinally arranged sockets open at the top of the neck, transversely disposed teeth proided upon the inner wall of each of said sockets, a stopper for said neck, a sealing element formed from a single piece of material. to provide a disk adapted to be positioned in contact with the upper end of said stopper and having diametrically located par llel arms extending therefrom for insertion in said sockets, inwardly projecting upwardly extending spring tongues carried by said arm fer engagement with said teeth and an annular flange surrounding said neck, the inner periphery of said flange alining with the'inner walls of the sockets to form a guide for the insertion of the parallel arms.
