Thls invention relates to new and useful improvements in flashlight carriers, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a convenient means for holding a flashlight in operative position for the user during the process of writing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device which may be attached to the thumb in order that when the user is holding a pencil the light may be directed to the point desired.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device which may be strapped to the wrist of the user and when not in use is provided with a pocket into which the lamp bulb, socket and wire may be placed.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an adjusta ie strap for surrounding the thumb of the user which firmly secures the lamp bulb in place.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of a hand showing the device applied thereto;

Fig. 2 is a view showing the device in open position showing the lamp bulb and socket placed in their respective compartments;

Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the battery carrier showing the space for the spare lamp and the pocket for the reception of the lamp socket and wire; and

Fig. 1 is a detail perspective view of the thumb band for securing the lamp socket in place.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the back of the device having secured thereto intermediate its ends the side walls 2 of the battery pocket 3. The front wall 4 of the battery pocket is formed integrally with the side Walls and the bottom wall 5 of said pocket 'is formed integrally with the front and rear walls. the device may be stamped out of a single blank of material if so desired. one side of the pocket 3 is a flap 6 which is folded back to form a pocket 7 as illustrated in Fig. 3, for the reception of the spare bulbso that in case the bulb inuse should burn out another bulb may be substituted therefor. Formed on the side of the back or bodv 1 of the device opposite that having a flap 6 formed thereon, isa flap 8 provided with a tongue 9 carrying one-half of a snap fastening 10 while the other half of said fastening is secured to the outer side of the wall 4%. A suitable closing flap 11 is formed on the upper edge of the body 1, and is pro vided with one-half of a snap fastener 12 which cooperates with the-other half of the snap fastener which is secured to the outer side of the front wall 4. A notch 13 is formed in theedge of the flap 11 adjacent the point where it joins the body 1 and onv the side of the body having a flange 8 formed thereon, and this notchis adapted to accommodate the connection Wires by means of which they lamp socket is connected to the battery.

As shown in Fig. 2, the battery is placed in position within the pocket 3 and suitable wires 11L lead from the terminals of the bats tery through suitable eyelets 15 secured in apertures of the flap l1 and, are'connected to the socket designated by the numeral16 width substantially equal to the width of the slot so that it may be looped around as illustrated in Fig. 4: and passed through the slot to provide a wire retaining loop through which the conductor Wires from the battery to the lamp socket extend. The tongue 21 is provided adjacent its free end -with a plurality of notches forming shoul ders 22 and the end of the tongue is adapted to be extended through the slotQO so as to form a loop for surrounding the thumb of the user as illustrated in Fig. 1.

In order to secure the device to the wrist of the wearer, asuitable wrist encircling strap 23 is'sewed or otherwise secured to the wall 1 and'carries a plurality of snap fasteners 24 arranged in spaced relation so ,be seen that the current will flow from the battery to the wires-into'the socket and through the lamp, thereby causing the lamp Cir ' bulb to glow. It will be also apparent that in the use of a device of this kind the free use of the thumb and all the fingers is had, so that writing is easily accomplished and ,thelight is concentrated at the point desired.

Vhile in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment ofthis invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

lVhat is claimed is '1. A device of the class described, com-- prising a back, front, side anda bottom wall forming a pocket, a battery within the pocket, a flap for closing the pocket, conductor wires extending through said flap and connected with the battery, a lamp socket at the end of the wires, a lamp bulb mounted in said socket and a flap formed on one'side of the pocket to form a pocket when closed to receive the lamp bulb and socket.

2. A device of the class described, comprising a back, front, side anda bottom wall forming a pocket, a battery within the pocket, a flap for closing the pocket, conductor wires extending through said flap and connected with the battery, a lamp socket at the end of the wires, a lamp bulb mounted in said socket and a flap formed on one side of the pocket to form a pocket when closed to receive the lamp bulb and socket, and means for supporting the lamp bulb and socket on the thumb of the user.

A device of the class described, comprising a back, front, side and a bottom wall forming a pocket, a battery within the pocket, a flap for closing the pocket, conducting wires extending through said flap and connected with the battery, a lamp socket at the end of the wires, a lamp bulb mounted in said socket and a flap formed on one side of the pocket to form a pocket when closed to receive the lamp bulb and socket, means for supporting the lamp bulb and socket on the thumb of the user, and means to support the .pocket and battery on the wrist of the user.

A device of the class described, comprislng a back, front, sideand a bottom wall .forming a pocket, a battery within the pocket, at fiap for ClOSillgthG pocket. conductor wires extending through said flap and connected with the battery, a lamp socket at the end of the wires, a lamp bulb mounted in said socket and a'flap formed on one side of the pocket to form a pocket when closed to receive the lamp bulb and socket, and an adjustable band for surrounding the thumb of the user, said band being adapted to support the lamp socket on the thumb of the user.
