In this embodiment the beam is disposed with its web vertical and with its top and bottom flanges horizontal in which case the bottom flanges are riveted as before described yand the top anges may serve as supports for the flooring F of the car.
Inv Figs. 10 to 12 inclusive a casting 30 is shown as abutting the rear of the bolster B and is riveted directly to the bottom flanges of the H beam before referred to, thereby resisting any tendency of the bolster to rotate about its longitudinal axis.
As in the structural form rst described, the cast pan and draft arm distribute buffing shocks to a plurality of sills instead of to a single sill,-meanwhile bracing both of the sills with which it is connected and providing a convenient and readily applied means for reinforcing wood or composite underframes of railway cars.
It is to be noted that neither form of the device necessitates the 'removal of any ofthe n longitudinal sills or the floor 'of the car nor the disniounting or alteration of the bolster. Also, the sills are connected by the panshaped members in segregated pairs.
TWhat I claim is:
1. In combination, a bolster, a plurality of spaced sills, a horizontally'disposedpaii with vertical flanges paralleling and being connected directly to said sills thereby connecting them, said pan being removable without affecting said bolster, and a draft lug rigidly connected with said pan.

In combination, a plurality of spaced posed pan with vertical flanges adapted `to parallel and be connected directly tocar sills thereby to connect them, a ledgey and a draft lug, a ledge integral with said pan extending from a side of said pan, vertically disposed and depending from the outer, Y border of said ledge.
10. As an article of manufacture, an integral casting comprising a horizontally disposed pan with vertical flanges adapted for connection tocar sills and therebycoiinectlll ing them, said pan being formed with an integral draft klug and transversely disposed brace, said pan and draft lug being in different vertical zones.
